Death Trap Insufficient Traffic Calming, 6th October

Tue, 06 Oct 2020 11:42:47 +0100
51.177647 -3.241895

There is a Bridleway (Public Right of Way WL 8/16) exiting onto the A39 approximately midway between Bridgwater and Minehead. This is situated on a blind bend, where I believe the speed limit is 50mph.The right of way is well used by walkers and horse riders including children. Although there is traffic calming in the form of “SLOW” painted on the road, I believe this to be totally insufficient to prevent a serious accident. Many people exiting the right of way will wish to cross the A39 into Higher Street heading towards East Quantoxhead. There is little or no pavement on the roadside to aid this, or allow crossing further up or down the road. For traffic travelling from Bridgwater towards Minehead the driver enters a blind bend and is likely to be presented with a walker or horse in the middle of the road. At 50mph or even slower, a collision is likely. Is it possible please to have this situation properly investigated and more appropriate safety measures applied? I can assure you that crossing the road here is extremely difficult, even for a very cautious adult on foot, let alone a horse. It is noteworthy that there are other similar situations on this road nearby, and I believe it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

The Fridge Of Knowle Wood, 7th January

Sat, 07 Jan 2017 16:52:56 +0000
51.177121 -3.252203

This fridge has been in the large lay as you approach West Quantoxhead on the A39 from the east by for the last 6 months at least. Sometimes it has been at the back of the lay by, sometimes it has been at the middle. Now some wag has written 'Happy 2017' and it has attracted some bin bags and other flytip. Can it be moved please. On a more serious note this is on the main A39 towards Wiliton and Minehead. I bet every member and senior employee of West Somerset Council has driven past this eyesore many times and done nothing. I also suspect many staff and management of Somerset Waste Partnership also drive past it at least weekly. All of these people should have the ability and inclination to address this and other problems.
