12 inch pothole near Wharf Cottages, 22nd April

Mon, 22 Apr 2024 09:58:03 +0100
51.589052 -1.674495

A large pothole has formed on the left hand side of the carriageway when travelling from Bourton in the direction of Wharf Cottages. The pothole is just before the right hand bend and is situated toward the kerb. The bend itself is prior to a T junction where you can either turn right to Shrivenham or left to the junction with the A420. The road is narrow and forms a pinch point. Therefore when vehicles/motorcylists etc meet in the vicinity of the bend, they are forced to drive over the pothole. This is presenting a high risk factor for an accident (particularly for motorcycists/cyclists) and it would be appreciate if OCC could schedule the pothole for patching. Thank-you.

Double manholes that are sunken, 18th April

Thu, 18 Apr 2024 10:46:22 +0100
51.584235 -1.698878

I drove over these on Monday 15th April at approx 15:00 in the direction of Swindon. There was an almighty bang. There was then a loud rattling noise whenever I went over an uneven bit of road or pothole. I had to continue slowly to the Great Western hospital as my wife had an important appointment to make. The car had now developed a loud boing noise when turning. After looking underneath my car to see if I could see anything (I could not) I phoned a couple of garages in Swindon to see if they could take a look at my car as I did not want to drive it home. Unfortunately no availability until Wednesday or Thursday. I drove it home to Faringdon taking slower roads where possible. I called in to a local garage and the earliest they could fit my car in was Thursday. I have just been told by the garage that the damage was caused by a pothole (or other road defect) and that the drivers front spring and mount had been damaged.

Dangerous flooding, 5th January

Fri, 05 Jan 2024 09:26:16 +0000
51.585287 -1.686768

There is always a high risk of floods on this section of the A420 both sides of the road. This is a very big concern as some day very soon someone will die as a result of poor drainage. The massive concern is that a RTC will occur and the council could have done something to prevent someone getting killed as a result of the poor rainwater drainage. All I'm asking is something to be done long term about this issue as it's very very dangerous for road users. Many thanks, J.Smyth
