A stretch of New Road where the tarmac has become so hazardous for driving that most drivers avoid by driving on other side of the road into oncoming traffic. This is a danger. The solution would be to resurface approx 100m of New Road, 4th March

Mon, 04 Mar 2024 08:46:31 +0000
51.514192 -1.729077

As described the tarmac has failed, been repeatedly patch-filled over the previous months/years and results in a unsafe road surface, which leads to damage to vehicles - consequently more & more traffic now drives on the other side of the road to avoid damaging their car tires - driving into on-coming traffic. This is dangerous in itself. Approx 100m of the road surface needs to be retarmac’d

Road Markings, 24th May

Wed, 24 May 2023 06:47:45 +0100
51.526116 -1.723548

The road signage clearly states 3 lanes can be used to turn from the westbound M4 to the northbound A419. The Road Markings are technically correct to take the 3 lanes around the roundabout. However, on almost all occasions the de facto behaviour is the middle right hand turn traffic drifts in to the left hand land for the right turn. This is dangerous as it is used by heavy good vehicles and a serious accident is highly likely. Recommendation: 1. Conduct an observation study on this junction to understand the de facto behaviour of the junction 2. Update signage and road markings to improve visibility and safety Please note: 1. The markings are correct from a technical standpoint. The junction may not be fit for purpose in its current layout due to driver behaviour

Request for additional signage on RHS of slip road, 4th January

Wed, 04 Jan 2023 11:46:57 +0000
51.526383 -1.723162

There are still challenges for drivers exiting the M4 Westbound at Junction 15 and using all three lanes to go right (which they can). A number of people seem to think you're just trying to get in front of them and whilst I acknowledge you cannot account for poor driving behaviours, may I please urge you to consider an extra sign on the RHS of the slip road that mirrors that on the LHS. The LHS sign which indicates all three lanes can go right, is not the clearest or obviously visible to those who are towards the right of the slip road. Please can I request a second sign, on the RHS of the slip road.

Updated layout unclear to many drivers M4 jct 15 westbound exit slip, 19th October

Wed, 19 Oct 2022 16:34:45 +0100
51.526203 -1.723864

The new layout allows all three lanes to go toward A419 to Swindon. The lines are painted correctly however for most drivers they are confusing. drivers positioning themselves in the middle lane are convinced they are being guided by the lines into the 1st, far left lane. This happens to me every single time I use the junction. I think the lines are painted in a way that unobservant drivers (let's face it, most of the drivers) after entering the roundabout from the exit slip start following the lane as if they were coming FROM Swindon let's say towards Bristol. They are convinced lines are guiding them into the 1st, far left lane. I think the solution would be distinguishing the line style for those entering from west bound exit slip from those being on the roundabout driving from Swindon onto entry slip west bound. If one (let's say those on the roundabout) were guided by dashed lines and the others had dotted lines it would make clear for them which lanes to follow and it would stop drivers from getting them mixed up where they all meet together. If you could observe the traffic flow in rush hours in the marked point I'm sure you'll be able to get what I mean. And like I said, the markings are correct but they have to be made even clearer because ever since the junction was rebuild the 1st lane is hardly ever used for Swindon as drivers think it's the middle one that takes them into 1st lane after going round the roundabout. It would also help if you could paint 'SWINDON' on all three lanes approaching the junction from westbound exit slip. Nowadays the full capacity of the road is simply not used as the traffic mostly queues on lanes 2 and 3.

Why crashes keep happening?, 29th July

Fri, 29 Jul 2022 10:48:41 +0100
51.526283 -1.723376

The entry to the roundabout from the M4, divides into three lanes before the stop line and traffic lights. Each lane has markings to indicate the correct lane for users to access their desired road on exiting the roundabout. All three of these lanes is marked for an A419 exit. However the left lane does not continue around onto the A419 but onto the exit slip back onto the M4. So any vehicle in this lane wishing to enter the A419 North has to either push into the lane to their right or crash into the barrier. Crashing into the barrier seems to be the preferred option.
