Ditch overflowing., 19th December

Tue, 19 Dec 2023 12:07:58 +0000
52.479983 1.131166

I alerted you to this problem over a year ago. The ditches are overflowing due to 24/7 output from the sewage works. The council pipe that traverses the lane is woefully undersize for the flow or water. The ditches have been cleared and deepened by the farmers but the council is responsible for the pipe across the lane. Water is now going backwards up the ditch behind my house and is only feet from by back door. The situation is urgent.

Gullies blocked, 19th December

Mon, 19 Dec 2022 21:27:13 +0000
52.484984 1.12444

Letter box gullies are blocked which causes flooding in heavy rain. I have attempted to clear two of the gullies by reaching in as far as possible, but carrier pipes are full of silt and road grit. Needs jetting please to improve outfall flow to watercourse. I know this has been reported before, and reply received stated the problem was not at intervention level. The pipes are blocked, i have cleared the first foot by hand but beyond that they are still blocked. So 'not at intervention level' doesn't make much sense. I also dug out the grips on the opposite verge to help alleviate the issue. The properties at Oak Range and Esperanto get the run off if this isn't sorted.

Blocked roadside drains, 17th November

Thu, 17 Nov 2022 21:00:32 +0000
52.484981 1.124282

Letter box gullies are blocked on S bend which increases flood water on road during heavy rain. Surface water can then also drain off road into driveways at Oak Range and Esperanto causing water level in private ditches getting too high and flooding septic tanks and domestic drainage. This has in the past caused water to back up into property through the drains.

Inadequate ditch pipes downstream of Sewage works., 28th January

Thu, 28 Jan 2021 13:30:12 +0000
52.481211 1.132625

Bunwell Sewage works runs 24-7-365 into the ditch. The water crosses the lane twice near my house (Horse Shoe Cottage) via 5" pipes. These are wholly inadequate and, this time of year, the ditch overflows onto the lane. Above the sewage works the ditch has an 8" pipe but lower down, with the additional and constant outfall of the sewage plant and additional land drainage, goes down to 5 ". This needs to be upgraded to a bigger pipe. Ideally an extra pipe crossing should be installed just below the sewage works.

Angry bulls, 14th January

Thu, 14 Jan 2021 14:25:17 +0000
52.485805 1.149286

The field at the rear of orchard farm has a public footpath (Bunwell FP12) diagonally across. The field has approx 4-7 large bulls in the field which inhibit the use of the footpath on safety grounds. On a recent walk through the field, the bulls were in the centre of the field blocking the path so we walked around the outside of the field. Only to confronted by a middle aged woman telling us we should walk through the centre of the field where the bulls are - putting ourselves at risk. we had to approach them (Bulls not the middle aged woman) on another occasion as they were guarding the exit gate. The bull didn't look happy and I got so close I could've touched his nose. I understand the law to be that bulls not from dairy herds or over the age of 10 months should not be located in a field where a public footpath is located. I asked the bulls how old they were but they wouldn't say - they looked older than 10 months to me. Any chance someone could ask the owner of the field to moove the bulls? There are two fields, one with the angry bulls and one with sleepy sheep in - surely the sleepy sheep would be better in the footpath field. In all seriousness, these bulls could've tramped us, and it did look like it was ready to start charging at us. There are regularly bulls in this field which deters the great unwashed (ie me) as we dared to cross the field. This is an incident waiting to happen and could be fatal.
