Amongst the numerous potholes on Castle St, on the southbound side of the road just after the zebra crossing there is a very large dip/sink in the surface which is dangerous for motorcycles and small cars who might not notice. Could cause damage to car bodywork or potentially cause a motorcyclist to have an accident. The full length of the road has been in disrepair for years.

Poor traffic signal timings causes long delays, 25th April

Thu, 25 Apr 2024 08:44:44 +0100
52.30252 -0.676687

The two sets of traffic lights on Midland Road at the train station and the Elsden Rd / Senwick Rd junction cause extremely long queues from the Driver Way / Roundhouse Way direction during morning rush hour. These queues are now often backing up all the way to the Roundhouse Way roundabout, regularly causing a complete blockage of that roundabout. The problem is clear to drivers. The traffic signals at the Elsden Rd / Senwick Rd junction do not allow sufficient vehicles through East-West on Midland Rd and the timing should be increased in morning rush hour. This problem is then compounded by the fact that the signals at the train station are on red coming for the queuing traffic meaning that sometimes only the cars already past the first set of lights can go through. The junction at the train station is a fundamentally poor design, however as the motion sensors on these lights seem to give preference to vehicles pulling up at the lights rather than the long queue on Midland Rd, the timing of these is fundamentally flawed, and they do not work synchronously with the other set of lights. This leads to an extremely inefficient junction where there is sometimes a queue of traffic at the train station junction who are stuck at a red light when the next set of lights are green with no traffic able to progress through. I understand that this junction may not yet be adopted by the council. If this is the case then the council should enforce the developer to take action. It is a problem that could easily be corrected and one which will only continue to get worse as more houses are built at Stanton Cross. A simple timing review could make a huge difference very quickly though.
