Pothole betw. M5 jn 31 & Kennford on A38 (S), 30th May
Big pothole I really thumped into, luckily for both of us no damage or sudden puncture. There really shouldn't such significant pot holes in fast lane of major route. Could lead to crashes due to swerving, severe braking, tyre failure. Please repair ASAP, and keep me informed of progress. Can't give you more precise location as driving at the time.

Dangerous implimintation of temporary traffic control by mobile units, 12th May
Travelling toward N/Abbot on A38/A380 from Exeter I was warned by 3 advanced display vans (between Wobbly Wheel & the Shell Garage) that Lane 1 of 4 was closed ahead. I was travelling at 70mph with no other vehicles travelling west within some 300-400 m, at 21:30 12/05/23 in Lane 2, immediately after the split. There were 3 further Highway vehicles in Lane 1, all with flashing ambers, the rear one of which displayed a big Keep Right arrow, as I was fully expecting. What I was not expecting was for all 3 vehicles to pull out and across Lane 2 into Lane 3, the A38 ! Whilst I had to brake, not particularly heavily and avoid the convoy veering back into Lane 1, this could have been different if other traffic had been closer. Also I cannot understand how the advanced warning could be appropriately changed or not be misleading during this manoeuvre. This is something that should be addressed prior to the next such requirement. I am an Advanced trained motorcyclist and was on a fully HiVis marked fully illuminated BMW RT.

50mph signs on A379 trigger sign recognition in car driving north on M5, 19th August
The 50 mph signs on the A379 trigger the sign recognition on my Ford Focus when I pass this Junction whilst heading north on the M5. If I'm using the Speed Limiter when travelling at 70 mph my speed suddenly drops as the car sees the 50 mph on the A379, even though I'm on the M5. This happens every time I pass this junction, and I feel that it presents a safety hazard. As more cars are equipped with this safety feature the problem will happen more often.

Insufficient diversion signage, 16th August
No signs on M5 approach to A38 indicating total road closer. The biggest issue however relates to the diversion signs for the A38 East. We went back and forward 3 times following ‘Diversion A38 E’ signs before giving up as they petered out leaving us in the middle of Chudleigh. It is possible we missed something but, given that we gave it 3 goes, the signs must have been obscure. This is really not good enough for a major road link to the SW.

Obscure diversion signs, 22nd June
Having been diverted on to A380 the signs to get us back on the A38 west were impossible to follow. Lots of signs for A38 east but none west. Without our Sat Nav we would not have found our way. Please trial this route yourself and see how difficult it is to negotiate. Colour coded signs for east and west would be useful as writing on signage is too small.

Possible Damage to bridge over Plymouth/Torquay bound carriageway of A38 on the eastbound facing side of the bridge, 12th April
Whilst driving towards Exeter I noticed what appeared to be a chunk of concrete missing from the bridge over the westbound carriageway near kennford. This is the first road bridge after the splatford split junction. It is over the westbound carriageway, but on the rear of the bridge as you approach so only visible whilst driving in the opposite direction. Looked to be a fairly large chunk that had come off the underside of the bridge, so obviously concerned if more were to fall. Hard to be sure whilst travelling at speed in the opposite direction, but worth checking please.

30 mph speed limit on A38 dual., 6th October
With the current road signs and markings (since the roadworks there were completed a few weeks ago), the section of the A38 dual carriageway at the end of the M5 in Devon is a 'restricted road' according to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. This is because of the presence of street lighting and the absence of road signs indicating otherwise. We believe that this speed limit is inappropriate and most likely unintended. Could this be fixed by placing the appropriate road signs so as to avoid the hazard of having some traffic travelling at 30 mph and other traffic at 70 mph?

Overgrown verge and hedge on the cycle path, 1st July
This cycle path at this location links Kennford to Haldon Forest, its about 400m long. The hedge and verge are overgrown so much that cyclist are forced to dismount and walk or walk on the verge which is feet away from fast traffic on the A380. It has got so bad that I have just been along this stretch with secateurs to cut back brambles and stinging nettles. This should be good for about a week.

No entry sign missing, 17th January
This is the end of the off-slip from the A-road and cars approaching from Kennford need to know they cannot enter this road. As the no-entry sign has been knocked down this is quite a dangerous situation.
