Parking blocking viewpoints from junction and around a corner., 20th May

Fri, 20 May 2022 16:23:41 +0100
50.745191 -3.38808

The road between Rockbeare Village Hall and the entrance to Birch End has reached the point of being permanently dangerous. Cars park on every side of the road, on both sides of the junction to Birch End and often directly opposite. Some of the cars have not moved at all in a fortnight so may even be abandoned. This makes access in/out of Birch End very difficult as visibility is reduced to such a degree you have to pull out across one side of the road to be able to see if the main road is clear. There is no longer any room for 2 vehicles to pass, resulting in sharp breaking and reversing around a corner to let traffic pass. When the bus travels through it often struggles and when at the bus stop the road is completely blocked due to parked cars. This is now an accident waiting to happen. Traffic has nowhere to go if a more vulnerable road user such as a cyclist or horse rider is in the road, with traffic allowed to travel at 30mph around a corner with no clear vision of the road ahead due to parked vehicles. This has been ongoing for at least 6 months now and appears to be getting worse with vehicles parking closer to the junction of Birch End, parking both sides of the road and blocking the road ahead for both directions of travel. Once again, another car had to stop extremely sharply because of a vehicle having to stay on the 'wrong' side of the road for over 100m to pass all the parked cars. The car stopping quickly could not see the oncoming car due to the nature of the bend. Students waiting for the school bus now have to cross between parked cars as they never move. We all know how dangerous that can be, especially on a corner. I think it's time that double yellow lines were put in place around the entrance to Birch End and opposite the junction. I believe the bus stops shop be marked on the road so that people do not park in them. Something needs to be done to deter parking there. Enforcement is needed to protect those of us that live here and those that enjoy passing through.
