Enquirey regarding the reinstatement of street lighting columns presently redundant only with a third of the column remaining. These columns are situated on Pelaw Avenue, Shield Row. There are three such columns placed outside numbers 9 & 11 Pelaw Avenue and one which is sited on Pelaw Avenue on the corner of Newburn Road and King Edward the Vlll road adjacent to Shield Row Primary school and Shield Row Education Centre. Please could you inform myself the nature why the street lighting is redundant here as although this is a B road it is a busy thorough fare from and to the A1 corridor for heavy goods vehicles. In addition there are elderly residents bungalows situated on Pelaw Avenue and are finding it very disturbing the lack of street lighting here. My request is to have these street light and columns either replaced or infact reinstated. I also would like to understand why the lighting columns were removed and only the stand with electric left. One elderly resident is finding it difficult to sleep at night as she has a fear of the dark and has relied on the street lamp to shine into her bedroom window. It sounds very unusual as public rarely like the light shining into the property. However on this occasion the resident at 44 Hilllside Gardens has made it know to neighbours her fear. I await your reply in anticipation the lighting columns will be reinstated. Alderman Anne Taylor., 1st November
I have previously summarised the problem and identified the placement or lack of placement of street columns partially removed on a busy B road with heavy goods traffic feeding from the A1 corridor. The lack of these columns are causing safety issues as elderly residents are residing in the bungalows on Pelaw Avenue, Hillside Gardens. Additionally there is Shield Row Primary School and the Education Centre situated here. As the nights are drawing in very quickly I believe it is paramount to reinstate lighting columns on this busy road. I would appreciate feed back and the reinstatement of 3 lighting columns.

New loose road surface has ruined paint on my new car. I live off this road so have to use it, 14th April
A new road surface has been laid in the last 12 months on Batavia Lane and it is a discrace. It is basically loose gravel and even at 20mph has violently flicked thousands of stones into my wheels arches for months and has caused a lot of damage to the paint on my expensive new car. It will need fresh paint work to rectify the damage as it has devalued my car. The road also need to be resurfaced correctly rather than cheaply. Thank you Mark

The trees all the way down the street by the cycle track are overgrown and are scratching cars as they drive up the street. It wouldn't take much to cut them back once a year to stop this. Please can this be done asap.

The end of the street leading to Pelaw Avenue is once again covered in numerous holes covering a 20-30 yard long area which are getting worse and the constant minor "patching" is only making the road worse. Why can't it be totally repaired like other streets nearby?

Obstruction on highway from householder, 9th February
Whoever lives in this property is gradually building ad-hoc defences as he seems to have some paranoia about his house being damaged. The latest is a series of poles in the ground. Some of these 'defences' seem to be dangerous and would cause significant harm as they are not normal absorbent type structures. Also with the posts there is a significant risk of causing damage to a vehicle as the useable road width has been narrowed for pasting.

Abandoned white goods in back street, 29th November
Tenants from no 5 south view moved out recently and just left 2 x fridge freezers in the back street. The local scrap man just took metal from the back and left the rest. They are causing problems for residents parking and they look an eyesore.

Flooded Road, 28th November
There has been a blocked drain causing flooding to half the carriageway here since the heavy rain of 21st November. It is a week since this occurred and all that has been done is for some one to place a "flood" sign there. It should not take a week to resolve an issue which is likely to result in a serious accident...even more so now that heavier frosts are predicted.
