Huge amounts of litter and debris, 26th February
The A1 is the most squalid I think I have ever seen it!
This is on your litter strategy; 'A network predominantly free from litter, without compromising safety and delivered affordably'
Can you tell me how you are delivering a network predominantly free from litter when you don't clear it up anymore???
With regards to safety; you litter pick the A19 with zero hard shoulder and individuals from traffic management vehicles, but you can't do the same on the A1? Why do it so differently there but get such great results - yet the A1 is thick with dumped waste, thrown waste from cars and tons of stuff off the back of vans and trucks.
You are also running a campaign about the impact on wildlife - but that is not going to pick up the litter is it? So the impact of the neglect from highways must be greater!
What date is the A1 north and south being picked around here? Washington services is disgusting, never seen the road so bad after the slip lane leaving the services - that you are responsible for.

Litter and rubbish north and southbound on A1 from Washington to DUrham, 21st January
Huge build up of litter along both carriageways and central reservation that hasn't been cleared for months. Undergrowth has died back so now is the time to sort it out! Trees and bushes thick with plastic, it is gruesome. I remind Highways of their service level agreement to the government - to keep the highways predominantly clearly of litter. It is appalling!!

Students with P plates parking on pavement, 19th September
EVERY school day the two cars on the left of the photo park blocking the path at the broad band cabinet, combined with the neighbours van or pick up truck, creates a hazard for people coming over the crest of the hill

Horrible Road Surface ON A1M from Here to J62, 1st August
The road surface is very smooth then it goes to the horrible loud road surface and its louder the concrete please redo this road surface up to Junction 62 when your going to Durham the road surface is smooth to loud and repeats its and its getting annoying

Obstruction parking, 14th July
I live at the end of a cul de sac, the neighbours over the road do not have a drive and consistently park on the main road. This is causing visitors to the street to park directly opposite my dropped kerb blocking my large vehicle from getting of my drive , both ways due to the neighbours parking on the main road also. The neighbours have a garage as shown on photo but do not park in front of this. I am having to bump my car onto both my front garden and drive over the path to remove my vehicle, and also on occasion reverse off drive and all the way down street as there are no turning points

Road surface is so uneven and bumpy please surface it. and adding direction signs and new road layouts, 25th June
So when they were doing roadworks to this junction in 2014 they adding 3 lanes but never surfaced the road which is I say lazy works so come and resurface this part of road adding direction signs and new road layouts. the road layout now just both go to the A1(M), A167 and A693 For all 3 lanes add a lane restriction for all the lanes so they don't go to the same places.

Massive pile of branches against fence, 31st May
A massive pile of large branches has been dragged out of the woods by local kids and piled up by the fence alongside the field. They're tying these to trees and likely to cause damage, as well as it being an eyesore and causing an obstruction to the back gate of one of the properties.
This began several weeks ago and residents left it alone assuming they would lose interest, but they've just added to it over time. Needs removing, aside from anything else it's going to attract rodents.

Building an sos area emergency refuge area built, 28th May
Because this current SOS emergency refuge area is old and broken I would build a SOS area not for a smart motorway so there a space to get to the phone and a path to get to the phone. plus its very dangerous if you get out your vehicle people are speeding so its just a test if it would work, pass this idea on and see if it works,

Pothole caused puncture, 10th May
Pothole at bottom of sliproad, where the tarmac meets the joining road, I put my @coasta@ credit card size card in the pothole to show the depth, but this does not show very well in photo.

New footpath laid- Quad bikes and off road bikes using, 30th April
Each weekend, Sundays are worse, there are a number of Quad bikes and illegal motorcycles who ride down Station Road turn into West Bridge Street and drive at speed along the public bridleway towards Penshaw/Shiney Row. Sometimes 3/4 together. They ride around the bollards onto the paths. Part of the path has been resurfaced, it will be churned up in no time unless more bollards or preventative measures are put in place. They are a nuisance and annoyance to residents and legitimate users of the paths.
