FIXMYSTREET IN DH3 4LD
The following problems have been reported on Fix My Street within 2 miles of DH3 4LD:
Huge amounts of litter and debris, 26th February
The A1 is the most squalid I think I have ever seen it!
This is on your litter strategy; 'A network predominantly free from litter, without compromising safety and delivered affordably'
Can you tell me how you are delivering a network predominantly free from litter when you don't clear it up anymore???
With regards to safety; you litter pick the A19 with zero hard shoulder and individuals from traffic management vehicles, but you can't do the same on the A1? Why do it so differently there but get such great results - yet the A1 is thick with dumped waste, thrown waste from cars and tons of stuff off the back of vans and trucks.
You are also running a campaign about the impact on wildlife - but that is not going to pick up the litter is it? So the impact of the neglect from highways must be greater!
What date is the A1 north and south being picked around here? Washington services is disgusting, never seen the road so bad after the slip lane leaving the services - that you are responsible for.

Fully van load of rubbish dumped along hard shoulder, 12th February
I think this might be the result of an accident, however for about 50m there are dozens of black bags, packaging and all sorts of rubbish that has been dumped along the hard shoulder southbound between CLS and DUrham. There are skid marks on the road so I'm not sure, it is just spread a long way along. It is truly appalling amount of waste.

Grass has been cut in the central reservation but no litter picked for over 10 months., 28th June
No litter has been picked down the central reservation along the A1 here, however as it hasn't been litter picked for nearly a year, the central reservation is now strewn with shards of litter, plastic, cones etc.
A lot of it was blowing around the highway the morning after they had done it.
Grass is cut twice a year and litter picked 4 times a year according to conversations I have had with you - however since this stretch has not been done since last July, having cut the grass it now looks awful. I am assuming you'll be doing three litter picks in the next 4 weeks into July to make up the 3 you have missed? Please confirm when you'll be litter picking as all of this is causing a hazard plus polluting the watercourses.

Litter build up is disgusting, 21st November
The litter is supposed to be picked 4 times a year. It has been done probably once this year. There is now flytipping by the road - whole wheelie bins of bags of household waste. The area manager here assured me 4 times a year - yet it is clearly not. Mile after mile of litter strewn roads are a national disgrace and Highways simply don't hit their own agreed targets looking on your website. Because this stretch is so bad - litter breeds litter, so people are now purposefully dumping waste here as it is clearly a known grotspot. You have missed the long, bright summer days and now in the short, dark wet winter meaning workers have very limited hours to work and much more hazardous, and no action has been taken at all. I've messaged, emailed, tweeted and simply been told we will pass it on. Last time you did I was assured it was picked 4 times a year - yet the same rubbish has been there since the start of the summer. When is this being picked? Last year you blamed the storms which was absurd as you hadn't picked the rubbish up for the same month after month after month, so the storms just blew it around.

Overgrown bushes and grass, 8th July
The grass and bushes on the left side of the Lumley New Road approaching from Chester le Street are so overgrown it is hard to see traffic coming from Fencehouses, when trying to turn right into Back Lane. The traffic tends to come down the bank at high speed making it a very dangerous place to negotiate the turn.

There are hundred of nails in the parking and loading area of Haveli takeaway after they had roof renovations, and the rubbish has been left all over the ground. 3 weeks ago I had a nail go through my shoe and pierce my foot.
