Sudden large depression in nearside wheeltrack westbound, towards end of dual carriageway taper., 16th September

Dangerous road layout caused by road works, 20th June
Long 40mph stretch ends just after the junction to bowes. This requires anyone wishing to stay on the A66 to use the outside lane. If you observe the 40 mph limit this is almost impossible with nearly all vehicles carrying on with no regard to the limit, if you try and stick to 40 & in my case. Towing it is dangerous and difficult to get into the outside lane in traffic. Please review before an accident occurs.

Lay-by fenced off, 20th March
Someone has fenced off the lay-by on the approach to Bowes village. Doesn't seem to be either the council or highways. Used by lorry drivers so this will encourage them to park on the road instead.

VMS electronic sign not working, 21st February
The sign indicating problems on the Westbound A66 isn't working. It hasn't operated for over 7 months. Among other things it tells road users if the road is closed to high sided vehicles and caravans and instructs drivers of such vehicles to turn around and use an alternate route. As it's not working road users pass it and several HGVs and caravans have overturned and blocked the road causing, in one case 6 days of limited lane availability on the A66 over Stainmore'

A derelict caravan has been dumped at this location., 14th June
A derelict caravan has been abandonned at Guide Post Corner, a site used as a Temporary Stopover Area for travellers during the amnesty for Appleby Fair. A Bowes resident operates a Caravan Cub Certificated site on the opposite cormner and the derelict caravan detracts massively from his small attractive site and culd be off-putting for prospective users of the commercial site. The land the caravan has been dumped on is Counrty Council/Highways England land and the derelict caravan needs to be removed as being fly-tipped rubbish. I've attached 3 photos 2 of which show the number plate attached to the caravan and a trailer board lying alongside the wreck.

Overgrown weeds affecting stream, 17th September
Weeds have grown in the stream at Low Road Bowes where it goes under the road resulting in the stream blocking. When we get heavy rain this will cause flooding. Also no maintenance to access to style on public footpath so over grown with nettles so people climb my gate rather than use style. This will cause damage to the gate!

Ragwort flowering, 10th July
From Guide Post Corner to the A66 a number of flowering Ragwort plants have appeared. Ragwort is a noxious, notifiable weed and the landowner has a responsibility to remove it when notified of its presence. Durham County Council is the landowner. It's likely that the next few weeks will see it flowering on both sides of the A66 Westwards to the County boundary. The Highways Agency is the responsible authority for this section of road.
