Red Post road sign, near Winterborne Zelston, Dorset, 15th May
Red Post is a well known local landmark, its origins are shrouded in legend and mystery. It is thought the original Red Post acted as an indicator for those unfortunate souls marching from Dorchester to Portsmouth for deportation to the colonies. Very few people were able to read in those days so when the post was reached the guards would turn off and the prisoners were shackled overnight to a large post in what is now called Botany Bay farm. This would have been the first leg of a long journey. Anyway, that`s all well and good but here is my problem: the current state of the sign is a disgrace. A sad, tatty excuse for a sign. The North pointing finger is missing completely. Please re-instate the famous sign for us all to enjoy again. If a entire new sign goes in I`d really like the old one for my back garden! Thankyou.

Marsh Lane DT11, 5th February
A number of potholes exist along this road between Winterborne Kingston and Anderson. Many have been there for some time, but the recent bad weather and the ensuing flooding has made the older potholes even bigger and created new ones.
