Road Subsidence & poor surface, 6th December
Hazard is on southbound side of the A359 between the (right-hand) turning to Seat Lane and the (left-hand) turning to Hassocks Lane.
Travelling south towards Bruton the surface on the entry, apex and exit to this bend is very poor. At the same time a kerbside section of the road on the bend apex has subsided, causing a marked adverse camber. The motorcyclist in particular is in grave danger here. If, as is natural, he moves left to avoid the worst of the poor surface he is in danger of hitting the adverse camber at the point of maximum tyre load. This is likely to cause the front tyre to break away leading to loss of control of the machine. The problem is made worse in slippery conditions.)
