Dangerous sight for temporary traffic lights, 9th October
On Saturday evening, there was a set of temporary traffic lights on the A36 just south of the junction with the B390.
The traffic lights were located about 150 metres after the crest of a steep hill. The speed limit is 50mph. As far as I am aware, there were no warning signs stating there were traffic lights or road works ahead.
As a result, I have to brake sharply from 50mph to stop in time for the red light.
This occurred about 9.30pm on a Saturday evening (7 October) when the road was quiet and dry and there was no queue at the traffic light.
My concern is that drivers cresting the hill on the A36 at 50mph could suddenly encounter a line of traffic stopped at a red light, and so have less time to react and brake than I did. As a major A-road, this route is used by HGVs and similar which of course have much longer braking distances.
I suggest the traffic lights be moved to before the crest of the hill and the junction with the B390. This would make it a three way set of lights, creating delays, but would greater increase safety.

Traffic lights not working correctly, 28th December
The traffic lights on A36 at Upton Lovell will change to red for no reason on approach. After about 5 seconds they go green again with no traffic having joined from the minor roads.
Sometimes they cycle from green, amber, red, stay red for literally a couple of seconds then amber back to green.
I commute up this road and pass these traffic lights in each direction pretty much every day and it always happens. During busier times it can actually cause tailbacks.
Think this is a long standing electrical issue because in the past the lights have been out completely and replaced with temporary lights.

Blocked drain on southern side A36 west of Sherrington Lane, 3rd December
There is a drain on the southbound side of the A36, aprox 30 meters west of the center of Sherrington Lane (measuring from the center white lines). It has become completely blocked with what appears to be gravel and mud. The blockage means that runoff water from the A36 is creating a lot of standing water on Sherrington Lane in wet weather.
