Hazardous Regular Traffic Congestion, 22nd June

Thu, 22 Jun 2023 12:05:35 +0100
51.503702 -0.37137

Dear Sir/Madam I am writing to bring to your attention a persistent issue causing inconvenience and safety concerns in this area of Charles House, Southall (Bridge Road, Southall Middlesex) between 11:30 am to 6.30 pm. Customers of certain shopkeepers on Bridge Road have frequently been blocking and parking their vehicles on yellow lines, thereby obstructing traffic flow and posing potential hazards to pedestrians and motorists. Some business employees working in the area cannot reach in time to pick up the children from school and cannot attend appointments on time, i.e. medical appointments. The unauthorised parking on yellow lines not only disrupts the smooth movement of vehicles but also jeopardises the safety of pedestrians. This issue has become increasingly prevalent, causing frustration among residents and nearby businesses. it is essential to address this matter promptly to ensure the well-being of everyone involved. It would be very difficult for emergency vehicles to pass through in case of emergencies in the area, i.e. Fire brigade and the Ambulance. The local companies are also facing issues with the hauliers as the big trucks get stuck and cannot meet the deadlines for the goods to be picked up and dropped at the depots on time. As a result, this is causing a financial impact on the local businesses. It has been noticed that the forklifts on the road do not have registration number plates. This breaches the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Requirements: Fork Lift Trucks and Other Industrial Vehicles. Vehicle registration and licensing is governed by the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 (VERA) (as amended). The Act requires all mechanically propelled vehicles used or kept on the public road to be registered and licensed. It is also concerning that gas cylinder bottles used for cooking are not stored properly and are accessible to any public members, including children. This creates the risk of fire, arson, or explosion. I kindly request the Ealing Council to consider the following actions: 1. Increase Enforcement: I urge the council to collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to increase patrols in the area or install CCTV cameras. Regularly monitoring and enforcing parking regulations, particularly on yellow lines, will discourage unauthorised parking and provide a safer environment for all road users. 2. Public Awareness Campaign: Launching a public awareness campaign regarding parking regulations and their importance could help educate shopkeeper customers and residents about the consequences of parking on yellow lines. This could include distributing pamphlets, placing informative signs, and organising community meetings to discuss parking issues and their impact on the neighbourhood. 3. Designated Parking Spaces: The council should explore creating designated parking spaces near the shops to alleviate the parking congestion problem. Establishing marked areas for customer parking would incentivise them to park in designated zones rather than obstruct traffic by parking on yellow lines. 4. Collaboration with Shopkeepers: It is crucial to dialogue with the shopkeeper(s) in question to address the issue collectively. Engaging in discussions with the shopkeepers can foster their cooperation and encourage them to communicate parking regulations to their customers effectively. These measures will address the immediate parking problem and enhance the overall safety and quality of life for the local business and residents. We have written and notified Ealing Council about the above breaches, and no action has been taken to date. We have been pushed from pillar to post without any assistance or support. I appreciate your attention to this matter and your commitment to resolving it. Please keep us informed about any actions or progress made in this regard. If you require any further information or if I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration.
