Major, damaging pothole between Wilcot and Kinton. Grid reference 375189, 29th April

Mon, 29 Apr 2024 15:52:06 +0100
52.770668 -2.935576

Huge pothole covered by surface water, so impossible to see. I drove slowly through this surface water on the evening of 27th April, when my car lurched to the left, accompanied by a very loud bang. I have never, in 55 years of driving, ever experienced any road surface distortion as severe as this. I have been told by local people that the pothole has been there for many weeks, it has been reported and nothing done about it. I am not exaggerating in claiming that this could be life threatening. If the Council fails to repair this immediately there could be a serious accident for which it would be responsible. As yet I am uncertain whether my car has suffered damage as a result of the impact, but if it has I will claim my full costs from the Council.

There is no kerb outside of Ichthus, Pentre, SY4 1BT. This is causing vehicles to park on the grassy verge and destroying it. Would it be possible for the highways team to investigate further to see if SC would be able to put a kerb there? Many thanks

Dear Shropshire Council, I want to start by expressing my gratitude for your ongoing assistance and support. It has come to our attention through numerous reports that the road leading to Kinton is currently inundated and cannot be traversed by most vehicles. This situation also prevents pedestrians from using the road. In the summer of 2023, Shropshire Council took the initiative to excavate ditches between Wilcott and Kinton. For two weeks, an excavator was employed to create new ditches leading up to the entrance of Wilcot Avenue. The rationale or objective behind this excavation work remains unclear, though I trust that a Freedom of Information Act request would confirm that all necessary surveys were conducted properly and plans were in place to address the current issues. The excavation has resulted in a significant increase in water flow from the A5/Wilcot area towards Kinton, causing the road to flood. Residents, some of whom have lived here for over 75 years, report that the road has never been impassable to this extent. I kindly propose that the council's excavation team revisit the site to create a pathway that will enable the water to drain off the road and continue its flow into the surrounding agricultural land. The standing water, which has remained on the road for 3 to 4 months and has subsequently frozen, has undoubtedly caused substantial damage to the road surface. This road is crucial for my family, as my wife and young child use it to walk to the local nursery, which is now inaccessible. Thank you once again for your assistance. We eagerly anticipate your prompt intervention to resolve this issue to the benefit of everyone involved.

Flooding on highway which is impassable, 14th February

Wed, 14 Feb 2024 11:41:39 +0000
52.765127 -2.927451

Since the heavy rains in December, the road between The Malthouse, Wilcot and Wilcot Avenue has been continuously flooded. This water has now eroded the road surface, causing large potholes in the ditches. The road is now only passable, with extreme care, by large vehicles and 4x4. A nearby pond over capacity and causing the flood waters to remain. I have heard that the road will now be closed to traffic, causing difficulties to nearby properties and delivery drivers and meaning that the school bus which takes pupils to the local secondary school will not be able to collect them from their designated stops. When it gets cold the water freezes for a long distance along the road. The road needs clearing as otherwise there is an approximately three mile detour which needs to be made from one end of the village to the other.

Drain in road is blocked & inadequate, 8th January

Mon, 08 Jan 2024 10:29:47 +0000
52.762798 -2.923673

Drain in road looks blocked & is half covered in mud. Road was flooded here all last week but is not flooded at the moment. I don’t believe that this is an adequate drain for this low point in the road as it always floods after rainfall. There is an issue of mud and water from the fields washing into the road. In addition to the flooding, vehicles passing through, push water and mud onto our driveway at longacre house which we then have to clean up.
