Pitlid has sunken approx 1-2in below road surface, 26th June
Partridge Lane near junction with Rusper road. At a bend in the road and narrow section, there is a large pit lid which has sunken below the road surface by 1-2inches. It is apparent drivers have been taking avoiding action by moving left into the verge. Pitlid is a hazard to cyclists as the area is not very visible due to being on a bend and also in a dark section of road.

Road surface dangerous, 10th May
I highlighted the poor road surface to this site around 3years ago, to which I received a speedy reply. It stated the road would be checked for large potholes and repaired. It also said the road would be added to the councils large list of lrepairs. This seemed like a logical resolution to my request. However the road seems to have had no more than probably £1000 spent on it in the past 3 years. If you are paying any more than that then there should be an enquiry. The road is dangerous to drivers as well as being heavy on the ware and tear for cars. The road edge has fallen away in parts which leave you with the choice of driving off the edge with wheel damage or chance your wing mirror with the incoming cars. There are dead trees overhaning the road. The surface is missing in huge unavoidable patches on the hairpin bends causing cars to bump/hop round corners. Im sure this is all known but money is tight due to projects like the A24 to Worthing, which seems to have no limit expenditure. I drive all over the south east for my job and i see the difference in standards. The stretch Surrey maintain from Rusper to Clarks Green has had two major repairs to bring it up to a good standard, while West Sussex has spent next to nothing. The only bad bit is the join which connects it to West Sussex. When will the road be resurfaced? If it is not due in 2017 then at least i can take the issue up with my local mp or other avenue. Cheers for your time and I look forward to hearing from you with the answer of my one question. Yours steve pattison

The road surface is past it., 13th January
The general condition of the road surface between Ifield West and Rusper village is very poor in places. Edging is crumbling away and the top layer of asphalt missing to a severe depth. The road is a nightmare when it rains due to flooding. All in all, one of the worst bits of road i use on a daily basis. I had previously reported this back in spring 2015 to which i was informed the road would be repaired in the autumn program of works. I would hazard a guess that a more urgent use of the roads budget took precedent. Is there a planned date for road repairs? Can you tell me how much has been spent on that section of road in the last year, repairing potholes? I look forward to hearing from you. Steve Pattison

AWFUL state of disrepair, 12th February
Charlwood Lane, between Russ Hill Hotel and the junction of Partridge Lane, (leading towards Rusper). Approximate postcode: RH5 5BS.
This road is in an AWFUL state of disrepair. There are potholes and severe surface damage across the width of the road, which continues for an extended distance. Since I started using the road more regularly in August 2012, I have seen it deteriorate significantly. I consider very dangerous as it not only damages vehicles, causing significant wear and tear, it also forces vehicles to the other side of the road to avoid sinking down the holes. Minor bridge repairs seem to have been made and yet the road remains ignored. It looked like a small portion of the curb of the bridge was repaired; a job which pales in importance when compared with the hideous state of the road.
