Deep pothole getting bigger on Enborne Street RG14, 30th March
This pothole has recently developed but is growing rapidly in size. It is quite deep and you can see the road surface under the tarmac is exposed. There is quite a lot of loose gravel on the road which has been gradually loosen out of the pothole by passing cars and trucks. It is difficult to avoid because there are always parked cars on the opposite side of the road so all traffic going both ways on the street goes over the pothole.

Steps closed again, 14th February
The steps were opened last month and have been in use up until yesterday. The owners of the house next to the steps have told me highways have chained and locked the gate ?
Can you please confirm highways chained and locked the gate and not themselves. Although this is a footpath they’ve informed me that they don’t like people using it.

Dog poo bin repeatedly overflowing, 12th January
This dog poo bin has been "overflowing" for a significant proportion of the last year. Please monitor, and if necessary: increase the bin capacity, add another bin nearby, and/or arrange more frequent collections.
I'm sure that it must be very unpleasant to deal with for whichever poor person has to deal with it when it is overfull, and bags have fallen all around it.

Small drain at entrance to park is completely blocked. Not an urgent priority, but worth clearing at some point to reduce flooding of the adjacent footpath,

Repeatedly Blocked Drain Gullies, 12th January
The following drain gullies are regularly and severely blocked: Drain gullies on the West side of Charles Street, specifically the two furthest South (nearest Battery End), and the 4th from the South (between Falkland Road and Essex Street). The 3rd from the South seems to be ok, and the drainage on the East side a little better.
Photos available on request.
Observations were made during heavy rain on 3-5 occasions between June 2023 and Jan 2024. These Drain gullies have been repeatedly blocked, with consistently little to no flow (water typically running over them, rather than down them in heavy rain).
The two main impacts of this are: 1) Overloading the drains at the intersection of Charles Street / Essex Street, causing further flood damage to Falkland House / in Falkland Garth. 2) Severe flooding and surface water across Essex Street at the end of Battle Road, causing a risk to traffic on a high volume route.
Fortunately, regular street sweeping has helped to prevent this from turning into a more severe problem that it already is - many thanks for that.
Please let me know if I can report these observations in a more helpful format in future - e.g. if I can refer to specific asset IDs in a spreadsheet, or if it would be helpful for me to use whatever classification the council uses internally to prioritise works.
If possible, I would appreciate understanding what the plan of action is. It seems that a deep service and testing of the gullies is the minimum required, although from speaking with contractors I understand that several gullies may need replacing with more robust designs which are easier to maintain.

Steps to footpath closure, 2nd January
The steps up to the footpath have been closed for some time. The alternative path is not fit for purpose as it goes up an incline and very muddy, I myself and countless others have slipped down, this will at some point cause an injury. Twice last year I’ve taken upon to cut back the vegetation as it was overgrown.
Also the owners of Palady Sping have cut down trees on the boundary of their property and the footpath.

No safe pedestrian crossing at roundabout, 22nd November
Despite pavements on both sides of roads as well as a public footpath crossing the A339 and bus stops on both sides, there is no safe crossing point on, or near the Swan roundabout. Site lines are terrible and vehicles approach at excessive speed. Consideration should be made for a pedestrian crossing with lights on the A339 approach to the roundabout as it is currently unsafe for pedestrians or dismounted cyclists to cross here.

Road markings and signage, 13th September
Drivers are constantly using the 3rd right hand land to go towards tot hill causing them to cut up people that do this part of the road correctly (using the middle lane and going round the roundabout on the outside not causing danger to drivers using the 3rd lane that go back up the hill towards the recycling centre/ newbury etc) accidents frequent on this part of the road also. Signage and road markings are terrible here. Something needs to be done

Road Markings, 6th September
On approach to Swan roundabout coming from direction of Newbury Town Centre towards B4630. There's only road lane markings going left so vehicles are observed being hesitant on approach to roundabout for which lane to use to go towards B4630. Vehicles appear to use middle lane to go 1st exit and 2nd exit and sometimes outer, 3rd lane to go 2nd exit so cut accross others. Arrow lane markings would make safer at this location or better signage on approach
