Excessive farm mud and farm vehicles parked on verges, 9th March

Sat, 09 Mar 2024 07:02:12 +0000
55.319516 -1.986288

This is a concern. This area is a working farm area but is a public road. The condition of the stretch here is appalling. Farm vehicles are now parked on a seemingly permanent basis on the verge as you come off the B6341 and are gradually eroding the grass verges in troughs of mud. It is unclear why the verges are being used for parking these vehicles but these have been here now for months. The state of the road, already reported, is wholly unacceptable. Could we have a timeline for road resurfacing, surface water drainage and clarity on why these vehicles are aggregating please on the verges.

Drive being destroyed, 23rd February

Fri, 23 Feb 2024 13:02:53 +0000
55.315547 -1.961698

Following the opening of the new SPAR store in thropton I now have a major problem with lorrys parking on the grass verge opposite the Spar. The entrance to my drive is being destroyed by 40 Ton plus vehicle's driving straight across my drive and on to the verge. This is now starting to create holes in my drive and also starting to dislodge the kerbs. There have now been more than a few times when I have been unable to get out as a lorry is parked straight across my drive. Something needs done about this as it is not acceptable and will eventually complete destroy the kerbs, drive and is also dangerous as it restricts my view when pulling out on to the road, I almost had a head on crash last week. Maybe a few ballards could be installed to prevent this, I do not think that double yellow line would be of any use in this instance. This is now the third time I have reported this problem and have not received a reply.

Excessive mud on road, 10th February

Sat, 10 Feb 2024 11:06:19 +0000
55.320199 -1.987157

This is a working farm area but the mud levels on this stretch of road are significant, as are the potholes, flooding and very poor road condition. This area needs completely resurfacing. Drainage is needed in the subsequent run down to the B6341 to reduce flooding.

Pot holes along this stretch, round corner and on for roughly 1/3rd of a mile, 10th February

Sat, 10 Feb 2024 11:04:25 +0000
55.31921 -1.986159

Despite a mobile NBL County Council roadworks team out last week filling some holes along this C road, the most significant and serious/dangerous holes remain. These may have been left because of water logging but do urgently need repair. This section is appallingly bad.

Terrible surface: potholed, cratered, 20th January

Sat, 20 Jan 2024 15:22:24 +0000
55.31998 -1.989506

The road condition on the C179 is absolutely shocking will large craters at regular intervals, areas where the whole is simply pot-holed, long patches of significant subsidence around pot holes, notably at the farm ends at Burradon and at Wharton Farm. It has not been resurfaced in the last 5 years. Without exception, the C roads surrounding Netherton/Biddlestone/Burradon/Sharpeton are dangerous and need urgently addressing. These C roads are, sadly, regularly used for very heavy traffic – agricultural, quarry and logging – these contributing to the road conditions. These are public highways which must be maintained in good order by the Local Authority. They will be causing damage to vehicles and is likely to cause serious accidents for cyclists and motorcyclists if this remains unaddressed.

Fri, 12 Jan 2024 10:54:01 +0000
55.318014 -1.992604

The road from Burradon to the B6341 is in a shocking state, and is increasingly used for traffic to/from the petrol station. There are stretches at both ends where the road conditions are diabolical, and large potholes in the wider stretches which cripple your car suspension.

Fort path obscured by trees and ground treacherous, 27th December

Wed, 27 Dec 2023 07:19:47 +0000
55.300041 -1.957379

The footpath (not bridle way) between selbys cove and simonside west face, is near impassable due to lifting of the forrest on its route. Trees fall across the path and young saplings make it hard to pass or see way markers. Foot bridges/board walks are broken. The footing is very challenging between the cove and stream, due to highly uneven marshy ground. The stream crossing is perhaps the most difficult part of the route to find and navigate. I used this route for the first time on Christmas Eve and nearly turned back twice for it seemed impassable. This route is in the pocket mountain guidebook so likely to be more popular in the warmer months. Thank you for your help. Cathy
