Discarded signs, numerous debris and broken railings, 18th February

Sun, 18 Feb 2024 02:53:35 +0000
53.492369 -2.951877

Please can you survey the whole of switch island and its intersections for debris from previous accidents/diversions. There are dangerous snapped and bent railings, sign frames, sandbags, car parts strewn all over the 300m radius of the centre of switch island. A good part of it has been there for months. The national highways 4x4 inspection vehicles are seen now and again here but it seems they are not reporting to NH. This whole area is a disgrace and it is dangerous to pedestrians, cyclists and motorcylists. I am surprised Merseyside Police Traffic have not requested the debris to be removed and the lighting to be fixed.

Dangerous footpath, 18th February

Sun, 18 Feb 2024 02:36:39 +0000
53.495178 -2.949658

There is a tarmacadam footpath on the on the A59 bridge over the M58 which could lead pedestrians into the path of traffic leaving the M58 at switch island. The path is untidy but passable. It should be blocked off with a physical barrier or similar so that pedestrians cannot proceed further than the entrance to a public footpath/bridleway on the bridge on the Maghull side . This area is also poorly lit at night.

The last speed bump on Barlow’s Lane before the turn into Papillon Drive needs looking into. It has a dip in the road and almost every car that passes over even at slow speed is hitting the road surface. This is causing the road to deteriorate

Traffic light phasing, 16th February

Fri, 16 Feb 2024 21:34:23 +0000
53.468705 -2.939018

The phasing of the lights needs to be looked at. They often stay in red for the exit from Barlow’s Lane. It seems every couple of cycles of lights the red light remains on red for 2-3 minutes. In addition there needs to be some common sense with the phasing of lights along Longmoor Lane from the junction with Seeds Lane and Lower Lane. Lights are changing to red without a clear flow through creating unnecessary traffic queues adding to congestion and increased co2 pollutions. Specifically when there is no traffic from Seeds Lane Higher Lane Barlow’s Lane. Traffic is often being stopped at 3-4 sets of lights with no other traffic around.
