Misleading road sign on A659 Harewood Road, Collingham for right turn to Leeds Rd A58., 14th September

Thu, 14 Sep 2023 19:35:19 +0100
53.908276 -1.414918

Seen in August 2013, the sign shows drivers travelling East into Collingham that they can turn right onto the A58 westwards to Leeds. As can be seen in the "junction" picture, that is not possible, given the Go Left sign and the two No Entry signs. Instead, drivers must before that junction turn right onto Mill Lane and round Tesco, then turn right onto the A58. I have produced a mock-up of a road sign which would show the correct route. Of course, it may not conform to standard signage conventions, but it may give you the idea and save you a diversion or U-turn.

Gutter debris on A58 between Wetherby and Collingham, 31st March

Thu, 31 Mar 2016 17:55:57 +0100
53.921015 -1.394745

It has become noticeable over the last couple of years that the gutters have not been maintained along the A58 between Collingham and Wetherby. The road gutters now have a build up of debris and in some areas it is so bad that grass has grown over kerb stones on top of the debris rendering the gutters useless. I suspect the drains are also blocked as I noticed last summer that grass (or barley from the fields) was growing out of one of the drain holes! Tree and flower planting along this stretch of road in recent years is very pleasing to see as well as recent litter collections, but the gutters and drains just need a little bit of attention please.

Rubbish on roadside verges, 26th March

Sat, 26 Mar 2016 15:49:46 +0000
53.91247 -1.386512

Along the A168 between Wattle Syke roundabout and the A58 Wetherby roundabout. A lot of discarded rubbish (plastic bottles, cans, plastic bags, paper and cardboard) all over the wide roadside verges. This needs clearing up before the vegetation grows and covers it for another year. This rubbish is unsightly and a danger to wildlife of all kinds. The strong winds have blown the rubbish all over and even up into the bushes and trees. The rubbish gives a terrible impression on the approach to Wetherby and the local council should be pursuing those responsible for clearing it. Erecting a sign making clear that discarding rubbish from vehicles is an offence might influence some of the litterlouts.
