Tree Preservation Order application, 6th July
A line of ancient oak trees some of which have very long-reaching limbs touching the ground before continuing to grow upward, indicating undisturbed growth for hundreds of years. These ancient oak trees support a huge range of biodiversity including birds, mammals and fungi and should be protected. At least one ancient oak supports a colony of bats. They can be seen from the public footpath on the eastern boundary during winter. The property has changed hands twice in recent years with planning permission for extensive residential development being granted to nearby buildings. I can find no record of the trees being mentioned on the planning records. The concern is that these trees and potentially others including majestic ash and others visible from the road, could be sacrificed in a landscaping scheme. I estimate the trees are many hundreds of years old.
