Badly phased temporary traffic lights, 14th April
You now have 8 separate complaints running on this junction, where temporary traffic lights have been installed while some sort of works are carried out. As indicated in all of the reports, these temporary lights are not phasing correctly, resulting in long traffic jams in all directions. The reason for these works is unclear, as until the junction was remodelled in 2022, there were no traffic lights at all. All the work being done seems (from observation) to be with the control box in the middle of the roundabout that (presumably) controls the full time lights, which were working perfectly until this work began. If a fault has developed, 1) Why has a piece of equipment that was only installed 2 years ago failed completely? 2) Why is it taking so long for whatever repairs are being done? These lights have been off for almost 2 months. 3) Since the roundabout is exactly that, why does it need traffic management at all? Since the function of the Highways department is to maintain the roads to allow the smooth movement of vehicles, what was the purpose or intent when these traffic lights were fitted. They now hinder traffic that once flowed naturally, stopping it moving forward when the road ahead is clear. Having made direct contact with the contractors doing the work, their reply is that there are too many sets of temporary lights to allow them to sequence correctly. This response seems incredulous, that they are willing to admit that they are unable to do the job that they are being paid for. As many of the other complainants have stated, the very simple solution to this problem would be to completely remove all of the temporary (faulty) lights on this junction, and allow the traffic to follow the rules of the road, as they did for the many decades that the junction existed before the modifications were made.

Huige queues with traffic blocking the roundabout, 4th April
The phasing of these lights is incorrect with traffic only able to proceed off the A331 to the next set of lights on the roundabout, blocking the roundabout for traffic leaving the A31 heading onto the A331. Queues out of rush hour regularly exceed 10 minutes, in the rush hour it can be 40 minutes or more with dnagerous tailbacks from the slip roads onto the A31

Temporary traffic lights poorly managed, 3rd April
The temporary traffic lights that seem to have become a permanent fixture that are in place at the A331/A31 roundabout are diabolical. Their timings are configured incorrectly and during peak times add approximately 40 minutes on to my journey home from work. There are no queues from the Farnham direction as that traffic doesn’t have to go through a second set of lights, and interestingly when those lights go green, the lights from Guildford direction also go green and all that traffic is then held at a second set of lights in the middle of the roundabout, cars move forward and block the box junction so that cars coming off the A331 then cannot move forward either once their equally ill timed light goes green. I called HSJ traffic management who said they can’t do anything as there ‘are too many lights’. The amount of lights are the same as the regular lights, they’re just set up badly and no one is taking responsibility for this. This is a roundabout that didn’t even have traffic lights until a couple of years ago, if you can’t manage the temporary ones correctly, remove them completely and put temporary roundabout signs back up. When the school holidays are over next week, there will again be a two mile tailback coming off of the A31 Guildford direction. Please can someone employ some common sense at SCC and fix this problem. While I am on here, I will report some of the potholes I have seen on Surrey roads as some are becoming crater like and dangerous.

Temporary traffic lights out of phase, 21st March
The temporary lights installed at the A31/A331 interchange are totally out of sequence and causing gridlock, only allowing 2 cars to pass southbound before being stopped at red lights. Surely the phasing sequence from the normal lights can be replicated? This is causing huge delays to all approaching traffic. Absolute nonsense

Temporary traffic lights, 21st March
There are currently works being done here, and the temporary traffic lights are not phased correctly, causing large tailbacks. The best solution would be to switch them off and let the traffic flow naturally, as it did before these unnecessary lights were fitted in the first place.

Dangerous Flooding, 17th March
I’ve lived in Farnham for over 15 years and this section ALWAYS floods, which cause many, many accidents and breakdowns. Perhaps the council should stop harping on about how important road safety is and then wasting tax payers money with stupid, unnecessary road sign like 20mph (which by the way there are so many now it becomes white noise to the human brain - many study’s to report this!!) and fix a seriously dangerous matter which occurs EVERY time there is rain!!!
