Obscured by foliage, 24th August
The sign indicating that an interchange onto the A1 is upcoming is mostly covered by tree branches (and given that it’s green is very easy to miss). There are not, to my recollection, road markings that would indicate such a major intersection is coming up, making it difficult for those unfamiliar with the road to prepare safely. I’m unsure how long it’s been an issue as I have only travelled this way once.

Heavy traffic through village due to A1 delays, 20th April
We are experiencing heavy traffic in terms of volume and size of vehicles coming through the village due to the delays on the northbound A1 due to the roadworks at Wentbridge . This is likely to be ann issue for at least 6 months. Access to the village is a single carriageway road with blind bends and traffic is driving dangerously fast without due consideration to pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and oncoming vehicles. Could signs be put at the entrance to the village on the A638 and A1 advising village access only such as have been put near East Hardwick on the A639?

Bad junction layout/signage, 5th January
Having used this road since it was altered years ago I feel it has become more problematic over the years. When travelling towards the junction to be able to pull onto the a1 northbound or pontefract road the one sign states that the dual road should merge to a single lane then split to turn either way at the junction, there is a small hatched area to supposedly move cars over to single file. There are no arrows on the road to highlight this! I’ve found that when approaching towards this junction at peak times and traffic is back up , vehicles are using both lanes but are infact creating 2 lanes. One for turning right and one for turning left. To do this vehicles are moving over the white lines of the opposing traffic and going over the hatched area. If using this road correctly you should be able to stay left until near the end, but vehicles creating the second ( unofficial) lane are stopping vehicles moving over with the feeling they are pushing in, when infact they are using the road correctly. I feel this road either needs splitting into 2 lanes to go either direction with proper signage, or creating a proper way to make vehicles move into single file way before the junction.

Massive Very Deep Pothole On Bend A639, 17th November
A very deep pothole in the carriageway at Barnsdale Bar, on the Wrangbrook Lane bound traffic if travelling from direction of Woodfield Road. It is a main junction and route for traffic exiting or joining A1 Southbound. My car’s offside wheels hit it today and it caused a shocking thump, felt throughout the car. The car now feels like it has either damage to the wheels/tyres AND/OR to its steering/suspension. It judders like a jackhammer as it is driven. The weather is too poor at he moment for me to be able to check for any visible damage. As a motorcyclist, I’m just so glad I was not riding at the time. It would have either put me in hospital or worse. It is seriously treacherous.

Northbound and southbound A1, 22nd October
I deliver the National Speed Awareness programme on behalf of UKRED. We teach rule 124 Highway Code, any road with street lights 30mph unless told differently. Except on motorways. On both carriageways of the A1 around Doncaster between the motorway restrictions there are hundreds of streetlights. There are no national speed limit gateway signs or repeaters along the whole length of this road. Technically everyone I teach, should they realise will travel this road at 30mph. Submitted for you attention and assistance should legislation cover this.

Litter everywhere all the verges and central reservations, 22nd November
Litter of long standing is a big disgrace and danger to wildlife and livestock as it blown around hanging on trees and it is being ignored and left with little deterrent to the perpetrators ie motorists. When is something going to be done about this problem in the light of such a concern about environmental issues and global warming yet our roads are covered by litter plastic????????

Congestion Relief, 21st November
About two hundred yards east of the junction with Sheepwalk Lane, Wrangbrook Lane eastbound becomes two lanes yet about two hundred yards before it's junction with the A639 Doncaster Road it narrows to one lane and then opens up to two, left and right lanes at the junction. Traffic queuing for the junction can at times queue as two lanes but not everyone is sensible enough to keep over to the left or right so a bottle neck is created. Would it not make more sense to widen the road at the bottle neck using a small strip of the exceptionally wide verge allowing traffic to queue in the respective lanes.

Road disintegrating around manhole, 20th February
Started forming a couple of months ago but is getting much bigger now - enough to want to avoid it in the car.
The road surface is disintegating around the service hatch at the start of the slip road to the A1 northbound. The hole is now a foot or so wide about 3-4 inch deep.
Not sure if the road is classed as the A639 or the A1.
