This was previously reported to National Highways regarding a collapsed section of timber post and rail fence. NH indicated that it was not there's to replace but Network Rails. Responding to your reply in February, 21st February
Thought I'd respond to the report previously about the disgusting amount of litter throughout the road network. Highways England, firstly I do no believe for one minute you regularly litter pick these major roads. The litter build up is extensive and definitely looks historic. Secondly you as an agency massively contribute to the littered roadsides. Your equipment is left behind following roadworks throughout the network. Why not report on the sheer amount of this equipment that is left? Absolutely tons of old traffic cones, sign frames, sandbags etc. You claim to collect 7500 tons of litter per year, but how much do you actually add in the form of this dumped equipment? We as volunteers try our best to keep our local area clean, but what example do you think the actions and attitudes of your highways workers sets to the general public? You mention about placing signs to discourage littering (haven't ever seen any by the way), but this is extremely counter-intuitive if you are going to constantly leave all YOUR mess behind once work has been completed. Littering in this country is a national disgrace, and YOU highways England/National Highways or whatever you want to call yourself, are part of the issue. Instead of accepting this, you try and pretend you are doing everything you can to clean up the road network, and we simply know this is not true. Please take these environmental concerns more seriously and stop promoting littering by leaving all your equipment strewn everywhere. You are a government agency funded by US and you should show some pride in your country. I speak for all the countless litter picking volunteers throughout the country. We have simply had enough!

Litter of long standing is a big disgrace and danger to wildlife and livestock as it blown around hanging on trees and it is being ignored and left with little deterrent to the perpetrators ie motorists. When is something going to be done about this problem in the light of such a concern about environmental issues and global warming yet our roads are covered by litter plastic????????
