Signs missing, 28th January

Sun, 28 Jan 2024 19:43:31 +0000
53.723674 -0.880121

Previously there have been signs for the reduced speed limit on the central reservation as well as the left hand side of the road. This at the entrance to the roadworks travelling west. These are now missing. They have always been misleading, stating 'Roadworks 1 mile' with an immediate reduction in speed to 50. If you are now in the right hand / middle lane and there are trucks in the inside lane easy to miss the speed limits, resulting in drivers slamming on the brakes

Mud on road, 9th January

Tue, 09 Jan 2024 07:52:59 +0000
53.732771 -0.868915

Mud and debris build up on exit slip road. I think as TM crews checking the roadworks use a gap between the exit slip and carriageway roadworks they have dug up the grass verge and this then brings mud and debris onto the road.

Why doesn't the signage inform motorists that the speed cameras are average speed check ? The signs that are up just say speed cameras.

30mph limit, 23rd January

Mon, 23 Jan 2023 23:41:42 +0000
53.724602 -0.878722

I have returned to Kingston upon Hull today after being away over 4 months and had to suffer a painful 30mph limit on a normally 70mph road. Why? All roadworks on motorways are 50mph or 20mph below the normal limit. Having seen works on the Avonmouth Bridge multiple times that was always at 50mph so this is unjustified and furthermore made worse by the average speed cameras. It's more dangerous being so slow as drivers become frustrated.

Remove the 30mph limit, 23rd January

Mon, 23 Jan 2023 15:28:47 +0000
53.724895 -0.878571

30MPH is overkill, at least bump it up to 40mph to get traffic moving better, if people can't drive safely at 40mph then they shouldn't have a licence, had no trouble crossing the bridge safely without the speed limit, and as ever no one working on the bridge ever so why the limit. Vibration is increased from the sheer volume of vehicles now passing on the bridge at once. Up the limit to 40 mph or preferably remove it.

Remove 30mph signage close rot the bridge, 23rd January

Mon, 23 Jan 2023 15:22:35 +0000
53.735279 -0.864044

Why does the 30mph signage and limit apply about half a mile before and after the bridge begins, why can't this be removed until after junction 37 and the national speed limit imposed as soon as the bridge finishes, taking way too long and the 30mph is limit is unnecessary, cars and lorries make vibration at 30mph and you now have more vehicles on the bridge for longer probably causing far more vibration than they would if they passed over it quickly at 50-70mph.

Why is this taking so long, 18th January

Wed, 18 Jan 2023 11:41:19 +0000
53.735974 -0.862746

The cones and road barrier has been in place for ages with no signs of any work being done. Just take them down until you can find the manpower. Many people miss the turn for Howden as they don’t realise that they need to get into the left lane and it’s causing unnecessary delays

Ouse Bridge speed restrictions, 5th January

Thu, 05 Jan 2023 10:21:26 +0000
53.72379 -0.880147

Living in Manchester, but travelling over to Beverley quite regularly, I cannot remember when the Ouse Bridge was free of speed restrictions, either for the railings to be replaced, or now some sort of structural repairs. However the current 30mph limit stretching for nearly 3 miles seems like severe overkill to me. Personally I have never seen such a low limit on any motorway in England before, not even the smart motorway work around the M60 around Manchester, which entailed narrow lanes (an excuse I see you have mentioned to a previous complaint). This stretch of the M62 is probably the quietest one in terms of traffic flow in the whole country, so I can see no sensible reason for it except for your organisation to enforce it 'because you can'. There are now average speed cameras, which seem to have stopped any drivers who, as mentioned on other complaints, were completely ignoring the 30mph limit, so that issue has been eliminated - I saw no-one at all going over 30 this weekend. Furthermore, as also mentioned by other drivers on here, There is NEVER any evidence of work being carried out on the bridge, no vehicles, workers, or progress. So what is the work being done, and how much longer will it take ? Finally, please explain the reasoning behind your decision to apply this limit.

Road Works / Speed Restrictions, 11th December

Sun, 11 Dec 2022 00:55:51 +0000
53.72442 -0.879408

Could anyone please tell me why the Ouse bridge is still coned off and heavily speed restricted. I don't see any work being carried out (unless it is under the road?) Personally I think the 30 limit is a bit silly perhaps, I do abide by it, but not everyone does, and some other drivers often shoot past at speeds far greater than they should be doing, this speed 'gap' is dangerous I think. Also, I went over this evening and there was some debris (truck tyre or mud guards?) on the south bound side at the kerb, and since there is no hard shoulder, this could do to be picked up. At the risk of grumbling for the sake of it and not knowing the reasons behind the 'work', is this getting wrapped up any time soon do we know..? Thanks.

The change of speed from 30mph to 70mph is dangerous, 21st November

Mon, 21 Nov 2022 08:38:39 +0000
53.73698 -0.861062

Ouse bridge roadworks - M62, junction 37, Travelling from Ouse bridge towards Hull The point at where the speed limit changes from 30mph to 70mph is at the same point where the slip road joins to the motor way. When joining the motorway from the slip road, cars & lorries are speeding up to 70+, and it is extremely difficult to judge vehicles speed, especially during rainy & foggy mornings. Also, the slip road has been narrowed to one lane with traffic cones, so cars cannot build up to a safe speed to join the motorway safely. All together, the roadworks have made this difficult to join the motorway safely.

Speeding motorist within the TM, 8th September

Thu, 08 Sep 2022 13:16:11 +0100
53.724533 -0.879011

HI, I drive the Ouse Bridge every day, I have no issue with the TM as it has to be done and the speed limits are there to protect workers and infrastructure. My issue is with the speed of drivers within the TM they know there is no speed cameras (average etc) so will speed through the 50mph and 30mph sections. This is a major issue as the disparity between 30 and 60mph + is massive within the narrow lanes and TM. It isn't nice to be overtaken by a lorry doing 56mph or cars at 70mph and you're doing 30mph on top of the Ouse bridge. Accidents are going to occur with such speeds and road restriction changes/differences. Average cameras could reduce the risk. I hope you can understand the issue. Kind Regards Adam
