Dangerously sunken SW drain cover on verge of collapse, 3rd March
This issue was reported to Highways Essex back on 23rd Nov. '23 and despite their website stating "We've investigated and assessed this issue. We've made it safe and we'll assess it again to find out if it needs permanent repair in the future" and "A defect has been identified, the issue will be programmed for repair according to how we prioritise highway issues" - nothing has been done to make it safe. Problem 'A' is that this road (despite having a 40mph limit) is frequented by traffic regularly exceeding 60mph, which often swerves into traffic from the other direction to avoid this hazard; it's an accident waiting to happen. Problem 'B' is that every vehicle which drives over this SW drain cover causes an almighty metallic crash, keeping residents awake all night. Problem 'C' is that lorries collecting aggregate from the nearby 'Bulls Lodge Quarry' drive over this cover, resulting in houses shaking. Again, keeping us awake at night. Highways have a legal obligation under Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980 to maintain the highway in “such a state of repair as to be passable in safety at all season of the year”, which is clearly is not currently possible to do. Normal intervention levels for potholes is >20mm deep and 150mm long/wide. This is 40+ mm in depth and is so across the entire floor area of the SW drain cover.

Road markings, 22nd March
Dear Sir,
I´d like to bring to your attention a potential issue with the road junction located just north of Chelmsford.
Address: Regiment Business Park, Eagle Way, Chelmsford CM3 3FY.
Location: Roundabout access to the recently opened Morrisons, Shell filling station and Costa coffee.
Plan: See attached sketches.
Issue: Travelling south along Essex Regiment Way we reach the roundabout where cars are given the option to use a slip road. 1. There are no signs to explain what the slip road is used for. 2. Once at the end of the slip road there is a ´give way´ road marking. My question is; should this slip road be used only for access to the Business Park? In my experience many vehicles are using this slip road to turn left into Channels Drive. In my opinion these vehicles could be a hazard to those emerging from the Business Park also to those that are on the main carriageway of Essex Regiment Way wishing to turn left into Channels Drive.
Solution: The slip road should be clearly marked as entrance to the Business Park only, with clear road markings to show this ie. Solid white lines.
Please address this issue as a matter of urgency as I believe accidents could be avoided.
Yours Faithfully
