Missing Starrs Close Road sign since this summer, 19th December

Tue, 19 Dec 2023 20:53:08 +0000
51.287192 -2.823421

The street name sign at the entrance to Starrs Close was damaged by work carried out by water works in the summer. After two emails and several phone calls it is still missing. Council told me several times it takes 6 weeks to replace, this time period has now elapsed by a couple of months.

Overgrown and overhanging hedges, 6th September

Wed, 06 Sep 2023 19:41:51 +0100
51.286556 -2.822228

The hedges from Axbridge Surgery in Houlgate Way up to end of Compton Lane are very overgrown and hanging into road, cars park up there and it is very difficult not to scratch cars. There are 2 gaps since Bellway homes have removed ahead of their planned build, but rest of hedges would benefit from being trimmed. As far as I know, not been trimmed in 2 years

Overgrown vegetation obstructing visibility at crossing, 29th May

Mon, 29 May 2023 08:37:26 +0100
51.293974 -2.830673

At the staggered crossing point on the A38 which connects 2 sides of the Strawberry Line path, the overgrown vegetation on the east side of the road makes it very difficult to safely cross if heading from Axbridge towards Winscombe. I was with a friend and our 5 children on a bike ride yesterday and it was really dangerous to cross here. You have to rely on hearing traffic because the bend in the road and overgrown vegetation does not give enough time to cross the road. It needs cutting back asap.

Scaffolding, 5th May

Fri, 05 May 2023 18:12:25 +0100
51.288196 -2.822301

Scaffolding has been in place to flats 28-24 Houlgate Way for quite a few weeks now. No one has done any work on side of building for some time. My dining room and garden look out onto this, so just wondering whether this will be removed soon. Bit of an eyesore ....

51.286556 -2.822228

The area in front of the council owned flats 28-25 Houlgate way is totally overgrown, there is a large tree blocking the light of the elderly residents who live in the ground floor - is anyone able to go and have a look at this with a view to making things more presentable? The rest of the road looks good apart from this.

Road works that residents have not been informed of, 17th September

Thu, 17 Sep 2020 13:50:08 +0100
51.285052 -2.820225

Yesterday a company (Globeclear ?) started work on Crossmoor Road / Millstream Close Axbridge. They have partially blocked the road and have blocked footpaths and no notice has been given to residents so that, if necessary we can make alternative arrangements. It has been fairly intrusive with much noise. Does the Company have authority to carry out this work ?

Dangerous overhanging foliage blocking sightline for cyclists cross busy A38, 3rd August

Mon, 03 Aug 2020 18:39:59 +0100
51.293826 -2.830749

(Photo from Google Streetview only to aid location. The foliage is MUCH worse than this at present. I would class this as URGENT now we are in school holidays.) The Strawberry Way is very busy with cyclists, including families, here. There is a very good central reservation and barrier system to ensure safe crossing, BUT if you come from Axbridge, the hedges and bushes have grown out so much that you cannot see approaching traffic until it is VERY close. Vehicles from the North are travelling at 40mph (or more) and a driver would not be able to stop if a cyclist emerged from the Axbridge side cycle path. I was there today when a group of older cyclists, not very agile, were trying to cross. In the end I stood inthe central reservation (with a good sightline for approaching traffic) and told them when it was safe to cross. A family with young children on bikes had the same problem. Had either group started to cross (slowly) and a car or truck had been coming down the hill it would have been a very nasty accident indeed.

Oversize trees in Crossmoor Road, Axbridge, 4th July

Thu, 04 Jul 2019 14:47:20 +0100
51.285175 -2.819512

These 2 trees stand on a patch of council-owned land outside 2 1 Crossmoor Road, Axbridge. We believe they were self-seeded rather than planted and have now reached a height where I think they need crowning and trimming. As you can see from the photos they now way exceed the height of the houses roundabout. I would be grateful if this could be considered.
