Severe flooding/no drainage, 19th August

Sat, 19 Aug 2023 08:16:49 +0100
54.459926 -5.832525

Newly developed car park at Downpatrick Street, with inadequate drainage to deal with any heavy rain! The area at Downpatrick Street entrance has became a pond numerous times over the last few weeks as a result of a couple of heavy downpours. As we are approaching Autumn/Winter where this type of weather is expected, as well as freezing temperatures, this area has the potential to cause serious injury (alternatively Saintfield could promote their very own ice rink!) ??

No lighting along footpath, 29th September

Thu, 29 Sep 2022 20:40:21 +0100
54.466049 -5.827618

This stretch of pavement is in total darkness in dark mornings/evenings. The street lights are positioned on opposite side of road to footpath, but give a dull orange glow which ends at kerb, making it impossible to see path, which is of particular concern when there is a high likelihood of stepping in dog mess and/or slipping on leaves. There is one new light along this street, outside Saintfield High School, which gives off bright white light which reaches beyond opposite side of street.

This street looks abandoned in places with overgrown hedges. Pedestrians are forced onto road to dodge hedges, dog poo & parked vehicles. Footpaths and road are a mess with shrubs growing through tarmac in footpath & holes in road.

Tue, 27 Sep 2022 07:12:56 +0100
54.460455 -5.83587

Street light and overgrown trees around lights make this car park very dangerous. Last night was particularly dangerous with lots of Rainbows/Brownies/Guides walking across car park on a dark & wet night. Pothole at narrow entrance into car park is difficult to avoid.

Dangerous pavement causing injury, 12th February

Sat, 12 Feb 2022 13:10:04 +0000
54.460183 -5.834262

The entire stretch of pavement along Main Street in Saintfield is in a bad state of repair, uneven and sloping - basically a patchwork of different surfaces as a result of being dug up by various companies. This has resulted in me going over on my ankle while walking last night in the area outside Jacksons Coffee Shop. On inspection the footpath surface is at 2 different heights, which is difficult to see in dark. My foot hit the edge of this surface, causing my foot to fall and went over on my ankle. I have had to rest with ice pack on ankle to try to reduce swelling. Residents wanting to shop locally, many of which are elderly with mobility issues, are being put at risk of serious injury whilst this footpath is ignored and continues to deteriorate.

Rubbish including cans & used sanitary towels, 29th November

Mon, 29 Nov 2021 15:39:55 +0000
54.457812 -5.835615

Large amount of rubbish left behind by local youths who either walk through and/or congregate behind houses between Moyra Drive & Forge Hill Court. Wouldn’t allow me to add all photos, but include: Foil and other drugs paraphernalia Plastic bag which appears to be full of rubbish Used sanitary towel discarded along path Cans and bottles (cider & energy drinks) Food packaging. This is very concerning given the close proximity to houses, not to mention young children use this lane to walk to/from local primary school. This is not only a council matter, given the drug use which appears to be going on here PSNI should be adding this area to regular patrols, rather than turning a blind eye to it as it’s out of the way. Residents don’t deserve to have this going on behind their homes!

Pathway used by many families to walk through to access school/village has become very overgrown, with an alarming amount of alcoholic drink cans appearing recently. Old car seat has been here for some time. A number of houses back onto it and I’m certain vermin will be attracted to the waste.

Dog fouling throughout Saintfield, 13th December

Fri, 13 Dec 2019 16:52:10 +0000
54.458265 -5.831294

I accompanied a group of pupils from local school to Saintfield church for carol service rehearsals this morning. Unfortunately most of the journey involved us announcing to children areas to avoid stepping in dog mess along footpath on Downpatrick Street. This is not the only area with this problem, it is impossible to walk up Forge Hill Court, and Main Street, without having to step around dog mess. I could have taken 6 photos to attach, but I think you get the idea from the one attached!! Have there been any council patrols within this area to catch culprits, and if so, how many fines have been issued? This problem was previously reported, however the issue is getting worse due to inconsiderate residents. Kind regards

Thu, 07 Nov 2019 15:58:59 +0000
