Multiple Potholes and Flooding, 13th October

This area has particularly big and deep potholes however the whole length of about 1.5 km is also very bad. The vicinity is also normally flooded to a depth of 6 to 12 inches thus masking the potholes. Cars are prone to falling into potholes running risk of floor pan damage, exhast/suspension damage or simply being stranded. Same is true elsewhere and pedestrians/cyclists cannot safely negotiate the road in either direction to catch the local buses. Council says the road is not adopted but it's a through road used by many non residents and Council used to fix it to a basic but acceptable level up to mid 1990's. Other similar roads in area are fixed so a dual standard is applied with the residents on this road being denied safe access to their homes, whilst other neighbours enjoy clean safe roads. Essentially there is a breach of basic human rights whereby the taxes paid by the residents along this road are being used to fund good services elsewhere. There is no reduction, refund or other compensation for those affected and if they employ 4x4 vehicles, which is a matter of necessity, they are being taxed even more to solve a problem not of their making. Also the schoolbus operators have stopped coming along the road further depriving some of an another important service. In winter the Council will not snowplough the road thus marooning the residents and leaving them to negotiate the drifts and potholes as well as can be. In these conditions the road is impassable to the Emergency Services and so there is a second, selective, failing in the Council's duty of care these residents who mainly have jobs beyond their homesteads. The road is now deteriorating more rapidly with increasingly heavy traffic and the foundations are being undermined. This matter has been the subject of much discussion with the Council and Rods Department, with several meetings over the last two years, however absolutely no progress has been made. Asking the residents to cough up more the £150000 to repair the potholes, while using our hard earned tax money to fix our neighbours ones, is definately descriminatory. On the basis that any airing of the truth is worthwhile I was pleased to find this website and would ask others affected do log their complaints. We simple seek equality in terms of how we are treated and it may be that legal pressures may be required to exact that basic right.
