The KW10 postcode in the Orkney district of the UK refers to a region of the Orkney Islands located in the North Sea off the north coast of Scotland. The KW10 postcode represents the main island of Orkney, known as the Mainland.

The Mainland is the one of the largest islands in the islands, home to over 20,000 people who identify as Orcadians. The island is largely rural and agricultural - characterized by rolling fields, seascapes, and views of Scotland's far north scenery.

The postcode area includes the towns of Kirkwall, Stromness, Finstown, Orphir, Birsay, Stenness, Deerness, St Andrews, and Firth. Kirkwall is the largest and most populated area, as it is the capital of Orkney. Stromness is another populared area due to its close proximity to the archaeological sites of The Maeshowe and the Standing Stones of Stenness.

Kirkwall is also highly-known for the St Magnus Cathedral, a large thirteenth century red sandstone church which was dedicated to Magnus Erlendsson, a former King of Norway. The cathedral was built in the eleventh century and is said to be the only medieval Scandinavian Cathedral in the UK. In the town of Stromness, visitors can explore its quaint streets lined with eighteenth century houses, cobbled together home to small businesses.

The area is known for its small seafood industry, which provides the area with locally caught and processed seafood. As well as this, it is home to an abundance of bird life, with over 200 species recorded in the area, and the Martello tower, a fort bult by the British during Napoleonic times.

The postcode area is served by the Orkney Ferries ferry network, who operate daily services to various parts of the mainland. It is also accessible from the Northlink Service which connects the Orkney Islands to the Scottish mainland. The nearest airport is in Kirkwall, which offers daily daily services to the UK mainland, as well as other parts of the UK.

Discrimination by Postcode

Discrimination by Postcode

You really couldn't make it up, could you? Some of the country's most vulnerable people are missing out on their weekly £25 Cold Weather Payment, just because the system that's in operation is discriminating against them because payments are based on postcode, rather than geographic location.
