The origin of the N12 code dates back to 1866 when a postal district was set up for North Finchley, which is now part of N12. N was chosen as it was the letter allocated to North London postcodes. In 1917, neighbouring postcodes such as East Finchley and Friern Barnet were added to N12.
N12 is known for its green spaces, including Muswell Hill Golf Course, Friern Barnet Park and Friary Park. There are also some notable landmarks, such as North London Collegiate School, the Camden Arts Centre and the Jacksons Lane art venue.
N12 is home to a thriving community, made up of a diverse range of businesses, family-run stores and national chain retailers. Finchley High Road and Woodside Park are hubs for local and independent restaurants, cafes and bars. New shops and businesses also line East Finchley High Road.
The area is served by two Underground stations, East Finchley station on the Northern Line and Woodside Park station on the Piccadilly Line. N12 is also home to a number of bus routes, which provide easy access to and from the area.
N12 is also renowned for its excellent academic results, with a number of highly-regarded secondary schools and colleges in the area. These include East Finchley Primary School, North London Collegiate School, Friern Barnet School and East Finchley Nursery School.
