The area is largely made up of residential housing. it has seen a steady increase in residents in recent years as the central parts of Edinburgh have become increasingly expensive to live in.

The area is well-served by public transport. There are bus routes that connect the area to the city centre every half an hour, as well as regular trains that run to the centre of Edinburgh.

The area is home to several parks and public green areas which are popular with walkers, cyclists and families. There is also a thriving sports community, with a number of football, rugby, tennis and golf clubs situated in and near the area.

For education, there are a number of Primary schools and two secondary schools. The University of Edinburgh is also within easy reach.

There is a selection of convenience stores and shops in the area, as well as a few cafes and restaurants.

The area also has several places of worship, including the St. Thomas of Aquinas Roman Catholic Church and the evangelical church of Gilmerton.

The area is home to a few notable landmarks, including Liberton Tower, an 18th century tower house, and Kirk o' Field, a former church and burial ground of Mary Queen of Scots' murdered husband Lord Darnley.

EH24 is a residential area with good transport links to the city centre, plenty of green spaces, educational facilities and amenities, and a selection of historical attractions.
