Moving east of the region, the area around Glencairn is mixed farmland with an abundance of natural wealth. As such, the DG4 is ideal for recreational activities such as walking, cycling, bird-watching, and fishing.

The DG4 area also has a rich industrial history, with the nearby town of Glencairn hosting several mines. Here, charcoal, iron ore, lead, and limestone were once extracted but have now mostly been closed down.
