It has a selection of independent shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and pubs along with regular markets which take place every Thursday. Bruton is a beautiful small town filled with character located close to the famous Glastonbury Tor and is known for its wonderful architecture. It is home to several independent retailers and a world-renowned white harte pub. Wincanton is a small town and the closest to the BA7 postcode area, famed for its agricultural roots it is popular with tourists for its underground library and annual Race for Life.

The local economy in the district is largely built on agriculture and small businesses, with the main contact employers including food producers, business services and manufacturing. There are also many small businesses in the area, from farm shops and artisan producers to antiques and collectables stores.

The region is served by a good range of transportation links, with several train stations in Bruton and Wincanton. Castle Cary Railway Station provides regular services linking the town to Bristol, Plymouth and London. A main trunk road passes through the area, linking Wincanton and Bruton, which in turn connects to the A303 motorway and M3.

The area is home to some stunning natural sites such as the Bruton and Wincanton Marshes and is also known for having a range of footpaths and bridleways. Bruton is also known for its annual Bruton Arts Festival which brings together exhibitors from all across Somerset.
