The area also has a number of golf courses and tennis clubs. Shopping and leisure facilities are plentiful, with Caterham Valley being the local commercial hub. Education opportunities in the area include schools such as Caterham School and St Mary's C of E Primary School.
The area is popular with commuters and families, with a wide range of housing options available. The district consists of detached and semi-detached properties, terraces, bungalows, flats and apartments. It also contains several retirement properties.
Property prices in the district are more affordable than in the neighbouring areas of Purley, Coulsdon and Sanderstead. The area has seen an increase in property prices since the mid-2000s due to the improving transport links and local infrastructure.
