Urgent Concern Regarding Severe Litter Accumulation
20th March
Location: Entrance to Agbrigg Park, Interior, Alleyway between Montague Street and Agbrigg Park.
This report documents the alarmingly high levels of litter present at the entrance to Agbrigg Park within the park itself, and along the alleyway connecting Montague Street to the park.
The sheer volume of discarded waste creates an unsanitary and aesthetically displeasing environment, posing potential health risks and negatively impacting the community. This situation is particularly concerning due to the proximity to local schools forcing children to navigate through the accumulated refuse on their way to and from school.
Detailed Observations: Park Entrance: The immediate entrance to Agbrigg Park is characterized by an excessive accumulation of litter. This includes, but is not limited to:
* Food packaging (wrappers, containers, fast-food remnants) * Plastic bottles and cans * Crisp packets and sweet wrappers * Cigarette butts * General refuse and debris * Park Interior: Throughout the park, litter is scattered across lawns, pathways, and around seating areas. Bins, where present, are frequently overflowing, indicating a lack of adequate waste management.
Montague Street Alleyway: The alleyway connecting Montague Street to Agbrigg Park is particularly egregious. Litter is piled high in certain areas, creating a narrow and hazardous passage. The accumulation suggests prolonged neglect and a lack of regular cleaning. The waste present is of the same nature as the park entrance, but in a more concentrated and substantial quantity.
Impact on Children: The proximity of local schools or the normal route children take to school to the affected areas is deeply concerning. Children are forced to walk through this unsanitary environment, exposing them to potential health risks and creating a negative impression of their local surroundings.
Potential Hazards and Concerns: *Health Risks: Accumulated litter attracts pests (rodents, insects) and creates breeding grounds for bacteria, posing risks of disease transmission. * Environmental Degradation: Litter pollutes the environment, harming local wildlife and negatively impacting the ecosystem. * Aesthetic Impact: The unsightly accumulation of litter detracts from the park's beauty and reduces its appeal to residents and visitors. * Negative Community Image: The state of the park and alleyway reflects poorly on the community and suggests a lack of care and responsibility. * Child welfare: The children being forced to walk through the rubbish is unacceptable.
Recommendations: * Increased Waste Management: Implement more frequent and thorough waste collection services, including the provision of additional bins and regular emptying. * Enhanced Cleaning: Conduct regular deep cleaning of the park entrance, park interior, and alleyway. * Public Awareness Campaign: Launch a public awareness campaign to educate residents about the importance of responsible waste disposal and the negative impacts of littering. * Enforcement of Littering Laws: Increase patrols and enforcement of littering laws, issuing fines to offenders. * Community Involvement: Encourage community involvement in park clean-up initiatives and adopt-a-street programs. * School Involvement: Contact the local school to help educate the children about littering, and to encourage them to use the bins provided.
Conclusion: The excessive littering at Agbrigg Park and the surrounding areas is a serious issue that requires immediate attention. It is imperative that action be taken to address this problem, ensuring a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for all members of the community, particularly children.

At least 2 deep potholes in this road

There are at least two deep potholes, one of them about a foot wide and a couple of inches deep. People have to drive round them, which takes the vehicle too close to the pavement, or too close to parked cars.

Mountain of Soil and Rubbish in Wakefield Cemetery
25th January
For many months, if not years, the council has utilized this space as a dumping ground for any excess soil that is not at the moment required for graveyard or general usage.
The problem residents face in this scenario is that not only does it blow over onto residential houses, but onto windows, clothing and cars. Thus, creating a significant mess of the surrounding area.
In addition, people are using this mountain of soil to their advantage by dumping any general waste or anything else that they no longer require. Yet, it is important to also highlight during the Summer months this mountain of soil is used as a playground amongst young people. Such scenario could lead to accidents not only by the soil, but also what has been dumped within in it.
It is asked of the council to remove such waste as not only does this create influence of fly tipping, but it is not appropriate for it to be in visual sight especially in a cemetery where many across the area come to visit their family members graves.
