There is a creeping grass bank that is halving the width of the footway
endangering safe active travel to and from Melton. There is a clear danger of accidents as cars and large vehicles are travelling too fast and too close to pedestrians - Used by a lot of children going to school. Groups can only walk in single file which is also dangerous for vulnerable users.
I am writing to you to ask for the improvement of the footway that runs alongside Yarmouth road, (B1438); this is a busy and well used path frequented by a great number of people travelling to and from Farlingaye school, Melton Primary school, Melton Nursery (who walk with children to Hope wood crossing the wide Lower road from an almost non-existent path), as well as residents and visitors to multiple houses and of course Ufford and St Agnes golf course.
My new role as Sustainable Travel officer incorporates among other responsibilities CW&W prioritisation projects which enables Active travel creation of new routes, but does not cover footways such as I am describing this would be a decision for SCC and not something I can influence other than to get advice, or rally enthusiasm to get this fairly straight forward (in my mind) improvement dig away a creeping bank to reveal pavement underneath thus doubling the existing path width.
Distance is approx from Melton Nursery (Little Leaders) up to the entrance of Ufford golf course which also has a precarious bus stop for school children, they have nowhere to stand, certainly no passing space for other pedestrians. Ideally, I would want to also extend the improvement which runs down an existing, and I believe unsuitable path next to Hope Wood, particularly in wet weather and winter conditions to the bus stop opposite Tollgate Chiropractors. This section is almost impossible for wheelchair/ push chairs or mobility issues. Also, I attach photographs to illustrate just how much the paths width forces pedestrians to the road edge of the footway where one will have to lean away from oncoming large traffic for fear of being hit by wing mirrors. Everyone must walk in single file so there are potential dangers when walking with children.

Overgrown pathway
7th January
The whole path from the 'old A12' past the Sogonho chapel site, all the way to the former council houses on Yarmouth Road, needs clearing please. I walked it with my 6 year old daughter at the weekend and it's overgrown with brambles again, this needs regular maintenance. It is not safe to walk in the road here as it's 60mph with poor sight lines. Thank you.

Rubbish

The slip road requires clearing of general rubbish. Pettistree villagers have cleared the other roads and footpaths around the village this weekend but it is too dangerous for us to clear this area which lets the area down.

Broken/Damaged Street name plate

A large and dangerous pothole

The road here is narrow and traffic coming in the opposite direction forces cars into the pothole. There have already been yellow lines put round it twice but nothing has been done.
