Carriage way is falling apart on high usage road
23rd April
Surface on carriage way in direction of Berkhamsted has broken down in multiple places and continues to worsen. Whilst there are lines to mitigate overtaking cyclists are forced into the middle of the carriage way and swerve to avoid unsafe surface in multiple places creating further risk to road users of a vulnerable nature. Additionally whilst cars do manoeuvre round the centre is broken down so badly debris are kicked up.
Legal notice: This location is exhibiting unsafe conditions that may pose a risk to public users. Under Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980, the authority has a legal duty to inspect and maintain the highway in a safe condition. This includes either carrying out timely repairs, setting a reasonable inspection and monitoring schedule, or where hazards are identified, providing adequate warning or signage to alert road users all of which form part of the statutory duty of care.
This report also serves as formal notification to the authority, ensuring that Section 58 of the Act cannot be later relied upon as a defence for non-repair, delayed action, or substandard fixes that result in increased risk to the public and unnecessary cost to the taxpayer.

Works carried out to substandard
23rd April
Whilst works have been carried out in recent weeks the quality of work is substandard for use of public funds and edging to the new surface poorly finished likely resulting in breaking down quickly and certainly not in line with the life expectancy of new tarmac. The works have been carried out from the junction with Station road coming all the way back to Newground road and fresh lines painted indicating no further work planned.
Contractors need to be held to account for the standard of their work when using tax payers monies and these works are quetionable.

15 meter section of road is badly eroded
10th April
Road is getting progressively worse, there is a section of road approx 15 meters long that is in the middle of the lane of travel approaching Northchurch. Cars move into opposite lane of travel to avoid. Continuous erosion of road is causing stones to be flipped up into windscreens and oncoming cars. This section of road has been neglected for years now. This is the 2nd time I am reporting this in 6 months.

Road Surface failure
31st March
The downhill lane of this, the B4506 between Ringshall and Northchurch has a linear rut that's approximately 50mm deep which causes motorists to drive erratically in terms of steering (to avoid the rut); this in turn leads to a dangerous situation for especially cyclists, motorcyclists and traffic in general using this road. Incidentally, only some weeks ago, a team from Highways was there at the S-bend by the track up to Northchurch Common repairing a small area on the uphill lane. A pity that these people have eyes but see not! One would have expected a diligent attitude to fixing something that a). they are equipped to deal with and b). experienced in dealing with as regular day-to-day business.
