Collapsing and blocked road drain., 16th March

Sat, 16 Mar 2024 10:29:11 +0000
53.990279 -0.945124

At the side of the road a large road rainwater drain has sunk notably, around 100mm below surrounding edge, the drain is also blocked. The supporting road structure (tarmac) is breaking away leaving big gaps around the perimeter, when water fills the blocked drain these are not visible causing a serious risk of detailing a cyclist. With the repeated heavy traffic going over the grate the tarmac is rapidly breaking away, there is a high probability of serious collapse of the drain and/or cyclist being derailed and falling into the path of another vehicle. The drain is on the LHS from exiting Risewood heading towards the A166.

Skid risk, 5th October

Thu, 05 Oct 2023 12:35:39 +0100
53.996262 -0.944093

When turning left travelling south, the surface of the road at this junction is dangerous, particularly when damp. I cycle, and I have fallen twice at low speed, I have also encountered a motorcyclist who had fallen at the same spot. It appears that the crown of the road junction is polished, and maybe an adverse camber. Thanks

Overgrown verge and trees, 16th October

Sun, 16 Oct 2022 12:06:18 +0100
53.997476 -0.956603

This corner has unfortunately been subject to lots of accidents including fatalities. As a daily user of this road for 30 years the amount of near misses is frightening. There is a blind corner forcing people onto the wrong side of the road over a narrow bridge. The signage for the narrow bridge is now unseen due to growth. When approaching the corner heading from Warthill to Gate Helmsley the whole verge needs clearing on the left hand side on the left hand corner. This needs carrying out urgently to create visibility around the corner and too the narrow bridge section. I would also suggest priority signs. Once this work is carried out it will significantly decrease the risk of further fatal accidents occurring. Put simply it will save lives.

This blind junction is already a death trap for cyclists coming up to the T junction, with a pothole on the left corner makes it a lot worse as you cannot position yourself safely. I know of at least one person who has had a nasty accident here and had to be driven home and that was a few years ago. Please fix this hole ASAP

Bad gravel on bad visibility junction, 13th May

Sat, 13 May 2017 12:58:34 +0100
53.996182 -0.944162

When turning right onto northgate lane visibility is too poor to consider cutting the corner. However using the correct side of the road means negotiating a lot of gravel. I have personally witnessed 2 cyclists fall down because of this. I appreciate it's not easy to control gravel due to the nature of the vehicles that use this road, maybe if you hadn't done a loose chippings repair 2 summers ago we wouldn't still be suffering so much! I think the safest solution would be to look into installing a mirror so you can see up the junction and cut the corner if it is safe, which will avoid the gravel.
