Road causing damage to house, 5th February

Mon, 05 Feb 2024 17:56:01 +0000
51.209738 -2.936448

Our property is circa 1890, well before the current road surfaces were built. The current road has been built in such a way that when heavy loads travel across this road, an entire section of the house vibrates and shakes. It rattles the windows, doors and is of such a vibration that is not just noise but causing amplified waves shaking the house. We can physically feel the upstairs floors shaking and creaking. We suspect the vibrations are carrying under the road, travelling across to the house and vibrating upwards into the house. There are cracks in the house and it is our belief they are being impacted by this event happening on a regular basis. We request that somebody comes out and carries out a proper survey on the effect heavy vehicles are doing to the property. It is my understanding that their impact is detrimentally impacting the stability of the house over the longer term and therefore should have appropriate measures put in place to stop the vibration into the house and land we own, or alternative routing of heavy vehicles are put into place. These is not light vibrations, it is audibly clear and the shaking is physically felt across the majority of the house. As a result, this is a serious issue for us.
