Speeding traffic, 10th April
Residents along Corsham road (B3353) and elsewhere in the village, have been complaining for years about motorists exceeding the 30 mph limit along Corsham road.
When the complaint reaches the police, they send a vehicle and officer who actively impose penalties for guilty drivers but the problem persists.
The problem persists even though a young child was killed (directly opposite my house) by a 4x4 overtaking a bus, disembarking school children. The driver of the vehicle was under the speed limit.
The problem persists even though the police monitor the situation from time to time.
The problem persists even though a new crossing has been installed adjacent to the school by Shaw church.
The problem persists even though there is a 3 way set of traffic lights at the junction with A365, slowing vehicles before entering Corsham road.
The problem persists even though the same road serves, a primary school, a church, an old peoples home and a golf course.
The problem persists even though local councilors and council are aware of the situation.
The problem persists and is getting worse, as motorists use Top Lane and the road through Purlpit as a rat run to avoid the traffic lights. The result being, that the village is bordered on two of it's three sides by speeding traffic.
Heavy freight lorries use Corsham road as a preferred option to the congested A350, bringing increased noise levels that deminish the tranquility of the village.
It's time to do something about it. It's time for our locally elected MP to do something about it.
What is needed, is road calming measures. Sleeping policemen, humps, bumps or whatever the current term is. Other villages have used them to great success, the villagers of Whitley would like them installed along Corsham road, so we can have similar success and regain a safe road through our village.
Please act now because the situation has exceeded the threshold of safety, endurablity, common sense and peacefull existence in our village.
Yours sincerely
Carl Moore
