On Wednesday 10th January the entire stretch of the dual carriageway was like an ice rink which resulted in a multi car collision which I was nearly part of. This roads clearly hadn’t been salted even though there’s been lots of rainfall and the temperatures were due to drop below 0. It felt extremely unsafe and dangerous

Reduced speed limit on A1307 Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 23:39, Fri 23 July 2021 Sent to National Highways less than a minute later You have reported that the reduced speed limit on the A1307 between St Ives and Huntingdon is due to safety issues with the barrier. If this is so dangerous that a 40mph limit is needed, why are you taking nearly 2 years to fix it? Report abuse Get updates Problems nearby UPDATES Thank you for contacting Highways England about the reduced speed limit on the A1307 between St Ives and Huntingdon. We appreciate your concerns about the length of time it’s taking us to replace the barriers but please be assured that we are delivering the scheme as soon as possible. There is an ongoing 40mph speed limit on the A1307 from Godmanchester leading up to the train station in Huntingdon because we identified that the barriers needed upgrading when we undertook surveys as part of the A14 major project work. Part of the problem appears to be due to ground movement on the embankment, so finding the best solution is more complicated than it might appear. We started the design process to identify the most effective solution in January. This required further studies and surveys to be programmed and resourced which helps explain why the barriers will not be replaced until spring next year. Once this is done the speed limit will return to 70mph. Thank you again for your report. Speed limited for no reason, 30th April

Sat, 30 Apr 2022 08:41:01 +0100
52.312069 -0.131259

It has now been well over a year since the 40mph restriction was put in place for so called 'safety reasons'. Nobody sticks to the limit and the limit itself causes a safety issue as it is ignored by 90% of traffic. It was cited that work would commence on the central barrier in March 2022, a date which has now passed yet again with no work being carried out. Please remove this restriction, the level of traffic and the increase in risk to road users trying to adhere to the 'temporary' limit is self defeating and actually likely to raise more safety concerns than it addresses.
