Littering in rural area, 23rd October

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 13:29:31 +0100
53.667728 -2.084977

This is on Calderbrook Road, Littleborough, at the point where there is a barrier because the road from that point is impassable to vehicles. It is extremely badly littered, and is obviously a place where people go at night to drink and use drugs. When I walk there, I always pick up a carrier bagful of plastic and glass bottles, and drinks cans, taking them home to recycle. However, that has little effect and there is always more litter there when I return. Is it possible to provide a clean-up of the area, and a litter bin, in an effort to make the area less of an eyesore?

Drainage Problem, 23rd October

Wed, 23 Oct 2019 13:21:23 +0100
53.662204 -2.087509

This is a rough footpath/bridleway connecting Calderbrook Rd to Higher Calderbrook Rd. Recently it has had a constant flow of water down it, which appears to originate from under the ground at the top of the path where it connects with HC Road as it bends to the left. This pours down, taking silt and stones with it which, as it meets Calderbrook Rd, blocks the drains (now almost impossible to see), and runs down until it meets a drain which is still clear. These blocked drains need locating and clearing. However, more importantly, the source of the flow needs investigating. This has only occurred since large earth-moving works have started at Slack Farm, and may well be due to disturbance of existing drainage.

Damaged lamppost, 30th June

Sun, 30 Jun 2019 17:38:48 +0100
53.662236 -2.088493

Street light no 7, on Higher Calderbrook Road, has its protective cover on the lower part of the post knocked to one side, leaving the wiring exposed. This has been caused by one of the many trucks, which are too wide and heavy for this narrow rural road, constantly going up and down. The same thing happened some months ago, reported by me at the time.

Dangerous metal swarf tipped, 8th March

Fri, 08 Mar 2019 16:49:11 +0000
53.678828 -2.086481

On the 50mph section of Todmorden Road, heading towards Todmorden, there is a pile of spiral metal swarf dumped (or maybe fallen off a vehicle) on the grass verge on the right. It is difficult to pinpoint on the map, but it is a short distance past the building which used to be the Bird i'th Hand pub (see photo). There are also some individual spirals scattered along the verge; as these are very sharp, a potential danger to dogs being walked on the grass. This was observed on 7th March.

At least a dozen black binbags have been dumped on the left, just after the last (no. 17 Higher Calderbrook Road) of a row of houses, near a field gate, just before the road bends to the left. They are fastened up, but one has bubblewrap sticking out of it and another has plant trimmings.

Damaged street light, 21st October

Sun, 21 Oct 2018 18:09:49 +0100
53.662306 -2.088536

The damaged lamp-post is No 7, which is the one furthest up Higher Calderbrook Road, Littleborough. It looks like it has been hit by a truck or trailer, as the post is scratched and dented, and the cover which is on the lower, wider part of the post has been partially knocked off, revealing the wiring inside. I think has happened quite recently, in the last 2 or 3 days.

Pothole incorporating drainage grid, 27th January

Sat, 27 Jan 2018 00:34:01 +0000
53.661651 -2.08875

This pothole has been previously repaired but is breaking down again. The road is narrow so it's almost impossible to avoid. It includes a grid into a drain, and I am concerned that heavy vehicles dropping into the pothole will cause the grid to collapse into the drain, which would cause a serious hazard. It is located next to lamppost No 5, at the gable end of house no 4.

"Road Closed" barrier - lock removed, 27th January

Sat, 27 Jan 2018 00:26:26 +0000
53.667669 -2.085133

The Todmorden end of Calderbrook Road, Littleborough, has been closed for a long time due to the road collapsing. Vehicle entry to this section has been prevented by a locked "Road Closed" barrier (indicated on the map), whilst leaving room for walkers, horse riders and bikes to get through. Some time ago I reported that the lock had been cut off the barrier, meaning that vehicles (eg fly tippers) can now pass through, though as far as I am aware, they would not be able to get through to the far end. The lock was subsequently replaced. Currently the barrier looks closed, but I noticed that the lock is once again missing, and the barrier is held in place with a short stick jammed through a hole. Obviously it is once again insecure.
