FIXMYSTREET IN LA8 0JU
The following problems have been reported on Fix My Street within 2 miles of LA8 0JU:
Suggested improvement, 4th March
It would be a good improvement to make the left slip road continue onto the a590 westbound without a giveway. The traffic coming round the roundabout is already fed to the 2nd lane and there doesn't seem a need to pause the cars turning left coming from the m6.

Very Dangerous road surface for Cyclists, 15th January
The stretch of road between the bridge and junction of back lane has been filled in so many times and then deteriorated it is now just one giant pothole. I cycle to work along this route (it’s the only safe way out of Kendal) and I have to ride on the wrong side of the road to avoid the uneven road surface so I can turn right onto back lane. It’s been this way for at least 7 years.

Dead deer on eastern side of dual carriageway, 13th August
Black spot for dear collisions. 2 carcasses last November. At least 6 as of August 10th 2023 seen that feed regularly on the bypass embankment. I have informed Levens Hall Deer Park as well. My concern is the rutting season is nearly on us and they will be more active.

Worn and faded give way lines at Brettargh Holt roundabout on joining west bound A590, 19th April
I have seen drivers assuming they have right of way from the slip road at Brettargh Holt roundabout onto the A 590 near side lane, west bound towards Barrow. A local man informed me, incorrectly, that this was now a lead in filter lane for the west bound A590. The give way lines are well worn at this junction and drivers are getting confused.

Road Sign Destroyed, 13th August
Road sign ‘Force Lane’ has been completely destroyed by an articulated lorry reversing out of Force Lane onto the A590 yesterday at approx 1pm . The lorry had accidentally turned down the lane. There is no turning circle for lorries of this size along this rural single track lane. The sign needs to be replaced again but with a bigger sign that can be visible on the A590 at a distance whilst driving on a dual carriageway. The road frequently is mistaken for the A6 by road users and results in vehicles turning down a single track lane with only residents private driveways to turn around in that results in damage to private property.

Sides of the footpath are badly overgrown with grass, nettles on one side and hedge with thorns protruding on the other side, forcing pedestrians to walk in the road. School children use this route to get to local primary school and the traffic is a danger at the best of times. Please act before someone gets hurt.

Road Sign Destroyed, 15th March
Another out of control vehicle has today left the A590 at the junction of Force Lane. The Road sign has been flattened with the sign posts sticking out of the ground. the vehicle is still lodged between the embankment and the building in the field and so further damage may be caused when recovered. The sign post should be replaced at the earliest opportunity as A590 users will assume the single track road (Force Lane) is the entrance to the A6 (already a frequent occurrence) The sign posts may cause a risk to other road users.

Bridge over River Kent. Bottom of bridge pillar being undermined by flooding., 4th December
I am the Secretary of the fishing club that owns the river bank and fishing rights that pass under the bridge on the left bank only, looking downstream. The problem relates to the bottom of the bridge pillar in that constant flooding is eroding the banking and support around the pillar and needs reinforcement with rocks to protect it. A similar job has been done in the past.

Long stretch of deep cracks and potholes, 21st June
The stretch of road between Sedgewick and Natland is full of potholes, deep cracks and botched repairs. The worst section is the stretch closest to the railway near Larkhill Hall. Both sides of the road have strings of potholes several inches deep, and very deep cracks. This forces cyclists to ride around 4ft out into the road. This adds an additional hazard as motorists then feel that cyclists are being inconsiderate, whilst they are only trying to be safe
