No road markings causing multiple RTCs, 21st December
Hello At the end of Kingston road A243 junction with the M25 roundabout about (51.3158635, -0.3302202) heading toward Dorking and leatherhead, the road marking have been so badly driven over and used that they now no longer exist. This causes traffic to stay in lane 1 of 2 as they approach the roundabout, however don’t realise that this is supposed to be a slip lane onto A243 southbound and as such break or attempt to move over, causing congestion and RTCs. I have witnessed multiple RTCs at this junction due to these lack of road markings and I’m sure that you are aware, given that a new car is present in the ditch every week. I’m not one to make unnecessary noise however when you nearly end up involved in a RTC because of these lack of road markings and drivers unaware what to do I felt I must email. In my employment I unfortunately deal with RTCs daily, and it’s outcomes, and know that most are completely avoidable. I was taught never raise an argument without a reasonable fix and as such will offer two. One option is to repaint the lines OR the more permanent and long lasting fix is place flex cones along the marking route showing that it is a merger lane and not a junction, similar to the new cycle lanes in Tooting. This will mean that in the event of a crash or fatal RTC, the council cannot be held accountable and be open to compromise/compensation as the road is clearly marked. I hope that this is fixed soon, as it is a very basic one day of work fix that will most definitely reduce RTC at the location and hopefully remove the risk of a fatal RTC. This email has been shared and saved personally alongside its access via the freedom of information act 2000, in order to aid and evidence in any potential claims or complaints cases. Many thanks
