This photo shows 1 of 3 gates into the fields along Sandown Road and Sandown Farm Lane, 31st March
There are 3 gates that allow access on to 3 fields either side of the A96 that belong to the Nairn Common Good, fitted maybe some 6 years ago. These gates were expressly fitted in order not to prevent illegal access. However, they rightly allow allow access to the renter of the fields from the Nairn Common Good, to plough, sow, and harvest them, over each year. However, the gates were badly put in because the ground beneath them has not been prepared properly so that they can open and close freely. In effect for ease of access the farmer removes the gates, and, leaves them thrown on the ground until he has finished his work, defeating the object of protecting the site, and doing so has now damaged them so that as farm gates they are ineffectual and unattractive. There has certainly not been any due diligence on the contractor, who was engaged, to fit them properly. The Local Authority is responsible to Nairn for husbanding its Common Good and the fitting of the gates is part of that responsibility, and payment for them was probably made from the CG Fund. Nevertheless, the gates are now not fit for purpose and the contractor, who fitted them, should be recalled to reset the gates, at the contractor's expense, so that they can be operated correctly without damage to them.

None of the manholes have been cleared and are now totally blocked with debris - dreading the rain as the flooding issue will be horrendous
Why are we paying Council Tax?

No gritting!, 12th December
Every winter is the same problem - we NEVER get our roads gritted in either the old part (1-20) or new (15 years now) (21-29) area of Newton Gate . No grit bins supplied but you do seem to have time and resources to grit our pavements although nobody actually uses the pavements! Would appreciate if this could be addressed as it is like an ice rink and has been for some time!
