Aston Clinton Road westbound approaching junction with New Road., 29th April
THERE IS A COMPLETELY MISSING TRAFFIC LIGHT, AND ITS ABSENCE RISKS CAUSING ACCIDENTS
The traffic lights at the junction Of Aston Clinton Road and New Road when driving westbound and approaching the junction, are confusing and dangerous as there is no traffic light on either central refuge (before or after) that relates to traffic continuing straight on. The only light there relates to the RH filter.
For westbound vehicles approaching the junction, the first thing that they often see is a green light on the left and a red light on the right, giving no clear instruction to continue on or to stop. This can cause a vehicle to slow down or stop at a time when vehicles behind are expecting them to continue on. This, in turn, risks causing a collision as a direct consequence of the missing traffic light.
If a westbound vehicle is approaching the junction at the time that the RH filter light turns red while the light on the left remains green, it can often slow down or stop and risk being hit by a vehicle from behind. I have seen drivers who are unfamiliar with the issue slow down unexpectedly at such a time, causing vehicles behind also to brake unexpectedly and this risks a collision.
When traffic is stopped at the lights while they are red, the view of the LH side traffic lights is often hidden from vehicles in the RH lane by high sided vehicles to the left. (This has often happened to me.) As a result, all that they see is the RH filter light. Under such circumstances, if the LH light turns green but the right filter light remains red then traffic in the RH lane will remain stationary while traffic in the LH lane moves off. Very confusing! Vehicles further back in the RH lane will then either sound their horn, which is not really fair, or a vehicle behind may incorrectly assume that the vehicle in front is going to move off and then drive into the back of it.
As you can understand, this is an accident time bomb. Is this set-up even legal?
