This is a newly laid section of road, we were told it would sort the drainage issues, but whenever there is moderate/heavy rain it floods, I believe worse than before the drainage works.

Road flooding after multi million pound 12 month drainage works, 11th March
The A595 road entering Whitehaven from Howgate, has been upgraded over the past year for drainage, the first time it rained heavily, the road became flooded at the selected location, even after all the work, and the field adjacent where the drainage had been put in place was also flooded like a pond.

Merge Lane, 8th February
Who had the idea of increasing the length of the merge lane coming off the Howgate roundabout or having one at all?
This merge lane has now increased the possibilities of road rage as drivers try to push back into the lane! It’s also increased the length of tailbacks!
What an absolute joke this road has become…congratulations for worsening the road layout and for making the situation even worse!

12”+ pothole in centre or road with vehicles parked on either side, 20th January
Impossible to avoid this as vehicles are constantly parked on either side of the road. Therefore hitting the pothole is not on risking damage to the vehicle being driven but there is also potential for the parked cars to be damaged as the severity of the pothole causes vehicles to swerve when passing through it.

Multiple potholes which have formed a bump., 17th January
This pothole has been an issue since I moved into an address on the road. I’ve had first hand experience hitting the potholes which is frustrating but I’ve also witness multiple cars coming down the road at nighttime and not seeing it and hitting the pothole and ramp at speed causing their vehicle to lose control momentarily. There isn’t much room on this part of the hill so all it takes is someone to hit it too quickly and end up either hitting the parked cars both sides or in the worst case a pedestrian or just causing damage to their alloys. The hill is heavily used by regular traffic, emergency services, motorbikes and taxis at all hours, every day so it will only get worse.

Empty Grit Box!!!, 7th January
The grit box at bottom of Harras Moor is empty! This section of road is used by 100’s of cars every day taking kids to and from the 4 schools in the area. Until this winter this section of road has always been gritted ,with it being on a very steep hill until recently . Just in the last month there has been numerous accidents and the police closed the road. Please could you look into both issues before there’s more accidents!

Water discharge over footway and onto highway, 29th November
There is discharge from the property banking at the junction with Aikbank Road and A595 Loop Road North. The water discharges from the bank and over the public footway and onto the public highway. During this cold weather I have nearly had an accident getting out of the junction due to the road surface being slippy. This is discharging at the junction and is a slow run hence the freezing. The discharge also is present a little bit on the U4295 which is maintained by Cumberland Council however affects the National Highways Network more hence my report to yourselves. This has been happening for a while however I have only noticed it get slippy now during the cold snap.

A number of street lights approaching the lowca junction on the A595 are not working at all, 21st November
Since your Moresby improvements lights on approach to lowca junction are not working. There are also several other along the lowca/paatoj stretch of the other side of road (nearest hill) on occasion there are every second one not working

Howgate Distington speed camera, 14th November
Flashing at every car even under the 40 MPH limit. Travelling at 30 MPH last night and flashed there and back.

Faulty Speed Camera, 13th November
There is severe rain and wind today and I drove through the speed camera zone at 30mph (it is a 40mph limit) and the camera flashed. I have been watching the speed camera since driving through and it is flashing at every car that is driving past. Therefore the camera must have a fault as I was way under the speed limit and it flashed every car.

Speed Camera incorrect calibration or set speed, 5th November
Travelling Southbound at approx 1500hrs 5th Nov’23 on the B5306 in a 40mph limit doing 40mph, exactly the same as every other day, but camera flashed. I assume no ticket will be issued since no offence committed but this does represent a distressing distraction to concentration whilst driving and needs to be rectified to avoid a potential incident. A temporary 30mph limit does start after the speed check area so this can not be a factor.

Foot path, 28th October
Foot path outside No38 Bransty Road CA28 6EY is in need of repair . Tarmac has crumbled away and is causing trip hazard . It is outside the legal limit and should be addressed with some urgency.

Worn Road Hole and Damage, 1st October
This area of road is worn, damaged with holes and historic repairs that have failed, loose stones are over the road and footpaths likely to cause damage to cars! This are of road has been poor for more than 3 years!

The speed camera closest to the roundabout is flashing every few seconds even when no vehicles are there.
