Safety concerns outside Gosforth Nursery and School, 22nd November
I write on behalf of Gosforth Nursery, where I am a Director. The Nursery is concerned about road safety outside its premises and those of the neighbouring primary school.
There are a number of concerns: - There is a pavement directly outside the nursery and school but the pavement ends at the edge of the school premises, forcing many people to cross here. At this point, it is a complicated place to cross because traffic can be coming from multiple directions, including Denton Park and the parking opposite the schoool running up to the Gosforth Hall Inn. There is no lollipop lady/man to help with safety. Should there be a zebra or other pedestrian crossing here?
- There is a new building site just east of the nursery on the Wasdale Road. This has increased traffic past the nursery and school, including heavy goods traffic. There was a recent incident when two heavy lorries carrying aggregates to the building site drove through this area at a very busy time at 22mph. Many parents were highly alarmed and have become aware that this area is at risk of a serious accident if safety isn't further addressed.
- About 50m west of this area, there is a road sign which ought to alert drivers driving east that they are approaching a school and nursery. This is entirely obscured by garden foliage. The HA should ensure this is addressed immediately.
- As well as this, is further signage, road painting or street furniture warranted? Is the signage adequate for drivers approaching from the east as well as the west?
- The speed limit is 20mph. This seems like it may not be low enough at busy periods. Can the HA consider this too?

Motorists ignoring NO ENTRY signs, 27th October
Yesterday 26/10/21 I was met head on by a car coming through this area and I narrowly missed having a serious accident. This is the 3rd or 4th time I have witnessed this occurrence in the past few weeks. The road through the no-entry signs is almost the width of two carriageways and this could also add to the confusion of non locals. Again I would like to emphasise how lucky I am to be reporting this occurrence ,something needs to be done before a serious accident happens.
